"The man used to be strict on us."

When she mentioned punishment, my mind drifted elsewhere. The thought of Lucas bending me over the knee and spanking me was oddly exciting. I shook off the thought.

"What's the nature of your relationship with my father and brother?" she asked.

"Pardon?"

This is the second time I've gotten this kind of question.

"I have nothing with your father. I'm just a friend to his fiancée," I replied. "As for Lucas, he's my boss. That's all there is to it."

"Hmmm," she hummed; she didn't believe me. "Sebastian, milk and no sugar."

"Such a big girl now," he quipped before leaving to get what she ordered.

"Oh well," she sighed. "It's none of my business who my family members involve themselves with."

I was glad she dismissed the topic.

"However, if we were to team up, it would be a different case," she said.

"What?" I blinked twice.

"We can use your friend, get information on my dad," she explained. "Or you tell me how many people Lucas has gotten to his side."

"Are you telling me to sell out your family?" I was genuinely confused.

"I'm joking, I'm joking," she laughed. "The look on your face. So priceless."

I had a feeling she wasn't joking.

"Don't overthink about it," she said after calming her laughter down. "You can just relax and do your job. What did you study?"

"Business management," I replied.

"Interesting," she responded with a smile.

"Your beverage, ma'am," Sebastian returned with the tea she had requested.

I emptied my cup and got ready to leave. I had an inkling that this family didn't like themselves.

****

According to James's request, I was supposed to return to the hotel with Kate, but she stayed behind. He was going to take her shopping. I can understand that she was madly in love with him, so I left them to enjoy themselves.

I would have gone straight to the hospital, but I needed to change, so by the time I finally arrived at the hotel, I was two hours late. I had always been on time. Not in my previous careers, jobs, and even from the first day I started working at the hospital. It was bizarre; and as I arrived, I wasn't the only one who shared the expression.

"I was about to call you; what happened?" Jane asked.

It wasn't a good idea to tell Lucas's staff member that I spent the night at the boss's place. Even if I didn't do anything.

An image of Lucas kissing me in the bedroom flashed across my mind.Okay, that was him.

It's another vivid image, but this time I am kissing him back and whimpering.

Damn. Definitely not telling her.

"She spent the night at my place," Lucas answered as he made his way into our conversation.
