Chapter seven

I Need Answers

Lucas

"Alright, then," Father let out a sigh of relief as the maids took away the dishes. "That was heavenly, wasn't it, Kate?"

"It was actually," Kate answered with a smile, turning her attention to the rest of us. "Thank you for a wonderful dinner."

I nodded in acknowledgment. Among my father's children, only Tabitha, Helena, and I stayed till the end of the dinner.

Helena yawned. "Sebastian, ask one of the maids to get my room ready. I'll sleep over tonight."

"Same thing here," Tabitha said.

I was already going to sleep here, so there was no need to ask.

"I'll leave now," Olivia said as she got up.

"It's getting late; I can ask the maids to get a room ready for you," I suggested.

"You don't have to," she said.

"I insist."

"I appreciate the gesture, but I think Kate and I would just go back to the hotel," Olivia answered.

"Oh, come on, don't be like that," Father cooed as he made his way to us, "Stay. Kate is already going to stay the night as well."

Olivia looked over at Kate, and they both conversed with their eyes. It was easy to tell that Olivia was disappointed with her friend, who, in turn, wanted just to spend some time with her fiancé.

"I insist," Father added.

"Alright then," Olivia agreed.

It annoyed me. Did she agree to the scumbag's request and not mine? There was something going on that I was being left out of. I hated that as well.

"Don't look so grumpy now son" Father said as he tapped my shoulder. "You're scaring the beautiful lady."

"We can share the same room if that'll help," Kate suggested.

"Oh my, that will work as well," Father remarked.

Both women were visibly taken aback by his statement.

"I was only joking," he laughed and smacked Kate on the ass. "I'll show you where I sleep. Lucas, you can show her to a room where she'd be comfortable."

Don't tell me what to do, sleazebag.

I suppressed my anger with deep breaths and turned to face Olivia, who seemed to be regretting her choice of wanting to stay over. It was already too late to back out. I needed answers, and if she left that night, I wasn't going to get them.

"Here," I opened the door to the room the maids had prepared for her.

It was Gregory's room, but nothing was inside except for the bed. Every single one of his belongings, down to his toys, he had taken out of the house. The bed was dressed, and there was a towel placed on the bed along with a robe and night dress.

I recognized the initials on the robe and one of Helena's.
