“I.. I..,” I stammered out, trying to come up with an excuse as to why I was going through his desk.

But then his words hit me, and I reared back with indignation.

“I’m not a liar! What are you even talking about?” I retorted loudly.

Roman’s eyes darkened scarily, and he took a couple of steps towards me.

“Stone tells me you’re supposedly in heat,” he sneered at me.

“Well, that’s why I was here! I’m trying to find a thermometer to verify that,” I shouted back, not liking his tone.

“Yeah, right,” he spat out. “You omegas are all the same. You’re probably trying to tamper with the thermometer to make it show what you want. You guys would do anything to convince an alpha pack to mate with you,” he said in disgust.

My heart shattered at his words.

“Fuck you,” I said simply.

I got up and dusted off my knees. I walked by him without a word and headed to my room. I slammed the door and went straight to the closet for a bag to pack anything.

I wasn’t going to stay in this miserable house any longer. I would rather take a chance in the human world and live there than stay in the same city with such an arrogant prick like Roman.

I grabbed a pair of socks and shoved it into the bag. I grabbed some other items, not caring what they were, and began filling the bag up to the brim.

Suddenly, a wave of cramps hit me hard, and I fell to my knees with a cry.

I dropped the bag and clutched my stomach as the waves of pain radiated out with an intense and sudden force.

I was in heat.

I had ignored the signs all day, and now I was paying the price. I curled up in a ball on the floor of the closet, unable to move or call out for help.

My pussy clamped down on itself, and I felt a painful, gaping emptiness. I let out a sob as the cramps wracked my body ferociously.

I felt my vision turning black, spots dancing in front of my eyes. If I passed out here, how long would it take before someone noticed? Before I died from the pain?

With a final burst of strength, I let out an ear-splitting scream, and then the world turned black.

Chapter 9

Roman

(Earlier That Day)

Isatinmyoffice in stunned disbelief.

Did this beautiful omega really just offer herself to be our mate?

She must be joking. There was no way this curvy beauty would want to settle down with a pack with just three alphas.

No, she would need at least four or five alphas to satisfy her, I thought to myself. I was so tempted just to be selfish and keep her for ourselves, but Gabriella was different.

Gabriella deserved more. She was unlike any other omega I’d ever met. She didn’t play games or try to be coy. Instead, she cursed outright and told you exactly what was on her mind.

My mouth quirked up, remembering the way every emotion she felt flitted across her face. She was an open book.

The silence dragged on, and I realized she was waiting for an answer to her proposal. I opened my mouth to tell her my story. The real reason why I could never take a mate.

In my heart, I knew she would understand.
