“Please,” she whispered, her voice almost silent even to their enhanced hearing. “I need you.”
Their clothing discarded, they pressed their bodies together in a primal dance of vulnerability and strength. The anxiety that had plagued Cora throughout the day dissipated, replaced by the electrifying sensation of Bronx’s skin against hers.
As they moved with each other, all that mattered was the bond between them.
“Trust me,” Bronx breathed into her ear, his breath raising goose bumps along her limbs. “I’ll always be here for you, no matter what happens.”
They pulled apart, breathless and blinking.
“I don’t know what I would do without you,” Cora murmured, resting her forehead against his chest.
“Neither do I,” Bronx admitted, his voice thick with emotion.
As they stood there, wrapped in each other’s arms, the world outside Cora seemed to fade away, her fears and anxieties momentarily forgotten, replaced by Bronx’s comforting presence.
Taking his hand, Cora led Bronx through the hallway toward her bedroom. But with each step, her anxiety grew.
“Is everything okay?” Bronx asked, uneasiness threading through his voice as he picked up on her hesitation.
The question brought Cora back to the present. She shook her head, trying to dispel the memories that threatened to engulf her. “Yes,” she whispered. “I just… I’ve never been with someone like you before.”
His eyes softened as he pulled her close, wrapping his strong arms around her. “Don’t worry,” he murmured, his breath hot against her ear. “I’ll be careful with you, I promise.”
As they entered the bedroom, Cora’s eyes were drawn to the large bed that dominated the space. Her hands trembled as she reached for the hem of her shirt, but Bronx gently stopped her.
“Let me,” he said softly, a reassuring smile playing on his lips.
Cora nodded, allowing him to take control. As he slowly undressed her, the heat of his touch chased away the cold tendrils of fear that had gripped her, leaving them to shrivel into nothing.
“Are you sure about this?” Bronx asked once more, his eyes searching hers for any hesitation.
She hesitated for a moment, feeling her past pressing down on her. But then she looked into his eyes and knew there was no one else she would rather share this moment with.
“Please,” she said simply. “Help me forget my past.”
Bronx nodded, his gaze never leaving hers as he lowered her onto the soft mattress. He leaned down, capturing her lips in a passionate kiss that seemed to set her soul alight.
“It’s just you and me,” he whispered against her lips. “No fear, no past—just us.”
As their bodies pressed together, Cora felt an unfamiliar heat spread through her body. It was as if Bronx truly was driving away the shadows of her past, replacing them with a light that burned brighter than any flame.
And for the first time in her life, she felt truly free.
Chapter 15
AS BRONX HELD CORAclose, he sensed her anxiety and knew he had to make her feel safe and cherished.
His thoughts raced with worry for her, wondering what could have caused such distress in her eyes earlier. He vowed silently to protect her and her child at any cost, even if it meant confronting the ghosts of their past.
His wolfish instincts kicked in, guiding his actions as he began to exhibit the tender mate behavior unique to their kind. He nuzzled his nose against her neck, inhaling her scent, letting her know he was there for her and only her. “You’re safe with me,” he whispered softly into her ear.
His fingers traced gentle patterns on her skin, and she trembled as heat flashed down to her core. Slowly, he kissed his way up her body, savoring every inch of her as if she was the most precious thing in the world. When he reached her chest, he paused, seeking her permission before continuing.
“Is this okay?” he asked.
Cora took a deep breath, her anxiety subsiding under his touch. “Yes,” she whispered.
With careful movements, Bronx unbuttoned Cora’s shirt, revealing her slight frame beneath. As the fabric fell away, he marveled at her beauty, determined to make sure she knew just how much he cherished her.
