She looked up at him and he saw the disappointment swirling in her eyes.
“At least he’s going to search the hotel room. The rest, well, it’s not like TV. These things take time,” Ethan murmured as he slid one hand around her waist and squeezed.
She reached up and gave him a chaste kiss, all too brief but before he could reach for her again, the doors opened to the parking level. It was better this way, now was not the time to get sexy with all the FBI cameras on them.
Back in the thick of city traffic, Rachel worked on the travel plans while Ethan tried to keep his blood pressure from escalating. He couldn’t wait to be back home. New York was lively and fun, but traveling by car in the city was a freaking nightmare. He’d thought San Francisco was bad but this was next level commuter madness.
They pulled up to the hotel a half hour later and headed back up to his suite. He wanted to leave Rachel’s room just as it was until Dalton arrived.
After placing an order for room service, they caught up on their respective work emails with Ethan at the desk and Rachel stretched out on the bed. Ethan made a few calls despite his aversion to talking on the phone. When it was business, he was okay for short periods of time, but anything personal he preferred face to face.
Speaking of faces… He looked over at Rachel’s beautiful one while she sat on the bed, typing away on her laptop at a speed he envied, her nose scrunched up, biting her bottom lip in concentration. Should he tell her how cute she looked, or would she bristle at that description? Only one way to find out.
“Has anyone ever told you that you’re adorable when you’re working?”
All typing ceased as Rachel looked over. A pink blush filled her cheeks and Ethan couldn’t be more pleased. He couldn’t stop from smiling, a fact that was happening regularly. When she smiled in return, a strange flutter in his chest kicked up.
“I don’t think anyone’s ever described me as adorable,” Rachel replied and scrunched up her nose again.
Shit, there goes my heart,Ethan thought as his pulse sped up.
Without thinking, he rubbed his chest.
“Are you feeling okay, Ethan?”
He placed his phone on the desk and got up, stretching out beside her on the bed. They had a half hour before Dalton got here, plenty of time to…
“Stop looking at me like that. I’m trying to compose an email to send to my department head and you’re distracting me,” Rachel whispered.
Her typing slowed considerably. There was no time to waste.
“Do it later,” Ethan urged as he leaned in and placed a soft kiss on her neck.
Hearing her quick inhale, he smiled against her skin and continued trailing kisses on her silky skin until he reached her jaw. Her soft moan had all the blood in his body rushing south.
“You’re a bad influence,” Rachel murmured as she placed her laptop aside and turned to him.
“Has been said never,” he whispered.
It was true. Ethan wasn’t one for being playful with his partners or even flirty with women he dated. Something in Rachel brought out the romantic in him.
She smiled and pushed his shoulders back and he fell against the bed. Straddling his hips, Rachel became the aggressor and took his mouth, the kiss full of possession and sultry heat. From playful to passionate in the blink of an eye, they kissed with a frantic need that kept building, getting hotter with each touch. Ethan ran his hands down her back, memorizing every curve until he reached her lush ass.
He wanted to worship every inch of her body. He wanted to make her feel like the queen she was. He wanted to stay in her arms forever.
Forever? The thought wouldn’t leave his mind. Or his heart. A swell of emotion threatened to overwhelm him, like a rising wave heading to shore.
Unfortunately, his phone beeped at the exact moment he realized what was happening. He blindly reached for it with one hand as Rachel placed hot kisses down his neck, nipping and licking his sensitive skin until his eyes rolled back, and he forgot what he was doing. He let out a loud groan until his phone buzzed again.
He grabbed the phone, frowning when he glanced at the message, but it couldn’t be helped. The message was from Dalton.
He was standing right outside their door.

“Are you okay?” Rachel asked Ethan as he sat up and took several deep breaths.
