“I think you should go for it,” Rebecca declared.
“Me, too. Carpe the…what’s Latin for dick?” Olivia wondered.
“I’ll look it up,” Nikki offered.
Rebecca plucked Sadie’s phone from the coffee table. “I’ll email him your list.”
“No, you won’t,” Sadie said, unfazed. “It’s password protected.”
Rebecca set the phone back down. “Since when?”
“Since I accidentally called one of my brothers while I was fucking Paul.”
“Which brother?”
“Brian, the younger one. We’ve vowed never to speak of it again, but he still can’t look me in the eye.”
“I can’t find Latin for dick, but penis is penis, which is just the same word with a little thingy over the ‘e’.” Nikki looked up from her phone. “Apparently it originally meant ‘tail’, and eventually became slang for dick.”
“Language is so interesting,” Olivia mused.
“So, are you playing at James and Amanda’s party on Wednesday?” Rebecca wanted to know. “Is that why he wants the list by then?”
Sadie shook her head. “He wants to play on Saturday.”
“Then can you do me a favor and play chaperone for a guest?”
“You’re bringing a guest?” Olivia asked. “Who?”
“Kit,” Rebecca said, and at Olivia’s blank look, elaborated, “She’s Nick’s assistant.”
“Oh.”
“He doesn’t know she’s coming, and she doesn’t want him to.”
Olivia nodded. “Yeah, that might make work awkward.”
“If you could stick with her, help her steer clear of Nick for the night, it would be a big help,” Rebecca told Sadie. “I told him I want to play at the party, so I should be able to keep him occupied for a while.”
“Slut,” Sadie said and leered to make her friend laugh. “I’d be glad to help.”
“Really?”
“Sure.”It’ll give me an excuse to avoid Jack.
“Thanks, Sadie. I’ll send you her number so you can coordinate arrivals.”
“No problem.”
“And now back to you,” Olivia interjected and pinned Sadie with a look. “What are you going to do?”
“I don’t know, but I guess I’ll figure it out.”
“If you want my advice—”
Sadie snorted. “Do I have a choice?”
“—I say, go for it,” Olivia finished. “You regret one hundred percent of the dicks you don’t ride.”
