Grayson smiled slightly. “You have been a problem for us before,” he said. “It’s in your best interest that you are no longer a problem for us.”
Miranda’s face paled slightly at the implication of his words.
“I don’t know anything,” she muttered, but even I could hear the shaky uncertainty in her voice.
“Right. I guess we’ll see about that,” he said.
I watched as Grayson stood up and walked back towards me. “We need to keep a close eye on her,” Grayson said, taking a seat next to me. “We can’t afford to let anything slip through the cracks.”
I nodded in agreement, my eyes flickering over to where Miranda was sitting with Victor. She was glaring daggers at us, but I could see the fear in her eyes.
It wasn’t long before exhaustion began to take over, and one by one, my team members drifted off into a restless sleep. I stayed awake, keeping watch alongside Victor.
Miranda finally drifted off to sleep. I couldn’t, so I left the living room so I could pace outside around the pool deck.
I could still see everything in the living room, so I didn’t feel too bad about leaving Miranda with Victor and Grayson. Grayson approached the sliding doors and opened them, joining me after a second.
“Can’t sleep?”
I shook my head as he closed the glass door softly behind himself. “Can you?”
“Fuck, no,” he said. “I really don’t like having her here.”
“She’s not going to be a problem as long as she remains tied up.”
“It’s not her I worry about,” he replied. “It’s her legions of fans.”
“I think you’re overestimating her platform.”
He nodded, sighing as he leaned against the door. “Maybe, but the issue is that he has one,” he said. “Puts us in such a vulnerable position.”
I nodded, understanding the weight of his words. We couldn’t afford any mistakes or slip-ups. Our lives were on the line, and if Miranda managed to get free and spread our secrets, it could mean the end for all of us.
“Do you think Sofia has what it takes to get her to talk?” Grayson asked, breaking the silence between us.
I looked at him thoughtfully before responding. “She’s resourceful. And she’s motivated. She’ll do whatever it takes.”
Grayson nodded in agreement. “I just hope Teo doesn’t get in the way.”
“He won’t,” I said firmly. “She knows how to handle him.”
Grayson chuckled at my words. “I don’t envy her job,” he said with a shake of his head.
“Dude, up until a few months ago, that wasyourjob,“ I replied.
“With none of the perks,” Grayson sighed, shaking his head dramatically.
I bit my lower lip. “Speaking of that,” I said. “There’s something I wanted to talk to you about.”
Chapter Sixteen: Teo
Sofiacurledupagainstme, her slender neck exposed as she slept soundly. I watched her for a moment, admiring how peaceful she looked even in the midst of chaos. It was easy to forget the danger we were in when she was near me. I’m not sure why, but being around her made everything feel a little more bearable.
I shifted slightly, trying to get more comfortable. Sofia stirred beside me, her eyes fluttering open for a moment before settling on mine.
“You okay?” she asked, her voice soft and gentle.
I nodded, brushing a strand of hair from her face. “Just thinking.”
