After my grilling by Lucas, the day had gone well. Chrissy and Lucas welcomed me into the house and treated me like an old friend, removing all the tension and anxiety I had been feeling when I arrived. I could tell that Abigail was happy too, as she hadn’t stopped smiling all the way home. She was currently in her room packing for our trip to Madeira. One thing about her being a supermodel was we got to go there in a private jet.

I had given my address in Madeira to Jo and Bianca so they knew how to contact us, and Bianca had said that she may be over in the second week to get Abigail up to date on everything that she had coming up. I still wasn’t sure if she had anything to do with the situation, but I couldn’t stop her from doing her job.

I had already contacted the caretakers of my house to get it all cleaned up and to stock the fridge and cupboards with the essentials we would need. My only concern now was while we were over there, I wouldn’t have the backup of a team behind me like I was used to. All the rest of the guys either had families or were working other jobs. I knew I needed help, but who? Not knowing who to turn to, I decided to give Nathan a call. It had been a week or so since we last spoke and I knew that Kelsey would be dying to know what was going on.

Picking up my phone, I dialled Nathan’s number. Almost immediately, he answered. Well, Kelsey, to be precise.

“Kye, why haven’t you called? I’ve been worried about you. How is Abigail? Is everything okay? Have you found—”

“For fuck’s sake, Kelsey, give the man a chance to answer you before you ask the next question.”

I sat there laughing at the pair of them. They were already like an old married couple and they hadn’t even gotten married yet.

“Kelsey, I will answer your questions, but then you will have to give the phone to Nathan, as I need to speak to him about something, okay?”

“But, Kye, I can—”

“Okay, Kelsey?”

“Yes.”

I could hear the sulky tone of her voice. She may have been twenty-six, but she often acted like a sulky teenager, especially with me. I guess the non-blood brother thing worked every once in a while.

“Now, to answer your questions, I haven’t phoned because I have been busy with Abigail’s photoshoots and appearances, so I am sorry if I have worried you. But you could have always given me a call. Abigail is fine and is currently packing to go on a photoshoot in Madeira. No, we haven’t found out who is sending the messages. Now, if that is everything, can you put Nathan on the phone, please?”

I realised that saying we were going to Madeira was a mistake when she continued to speak.

“Kye, you’re going back to Madeira. Are you sure you’re going to be okay? You know, with everything that’s happened?”

“I will be fine, I promise you. Now can I speak to Nathan, please?”

“Yes, I’ll pass you over. I love you, Kye.”

“Love you too, Kels.”

Now that I had placated her for the moment and answered all of her questions, she finally passed the phone over to Nathan.

“What’s up, Kye?”

“I need some advice. I’ve got to go with Abigail to Madeira, and before you say the same as Kels, I’m fine with that. What I am worried about is I have no backup. With you guys all working here, I won’t have anyone with me, and the only contacts I have, I wouldn’t want anywhere near any of the women, let alone Abigail. I know you are all looking into the background checks for me, so you are helping, but I have no one there. Any ideas?”

I could tell Nathan was thinking about the situation and trying to come up with a plan. As long as it didn’t mean him leaving Kelsey, I didn’t care what it was. I heard muffled voices, meaning he was obviously discussing it with her.

“Well, I could…”

“Before you even say a word, you are not leaving Kelsey there alone. I would never forgive myself if something happened to her. Especially now.”

“What do you mean, especially now?”

“Well if you haven’t worked it out yet, then I will let Kelsey tell you. But let’s just say when I saw her last, she looked absolutely radiant. Now before you put two and two together and I lose you, any other ideas apart from you coming with me?”

“I have one other suggestion, but I’m not sure you are going to like it.”

“Go on.”

“Your brother. You could reach out to Mateus. I’m sure if he couldn’t help, he will know someone that can. You are going to have to face all of them sooner or later. You can’t keep putting it off. You’re a different man now. Both me and Kels can see how much it’s hurting you not being around your family. Not that we care because you are part of both of ours now, but you need to reach out before it’s too late.”

I sat there and thought for a moment. Much as I hated to admit it, it was a good idea. I just wasn’t sure if I could do it.
