Even though Kylian was still confused, he smiled. “Well, I’m happy I get to spend time with you three.”
Legend spoke for the first time, surprising Kylian with his lack of an accent. “Us too. It’s always good to add another happy couple to the fold.”
The feeling of belonging doubled. It had been so long since he’d felt accepted. Kylian didn’t want the sensation to end.
“Have another drink.”
Yaro passed him another glass of the orange goodness.
Kylian accepted. He hadn’t even realized he had finished the other while they had been talking. “Oh. I guess I enjoyed that more than I expected.”
With a laugh, Yaro passed him a second glass. “Then take two. This is a day for relaxing and celebrating.”
Rian's hand slid across the small of Kylian’s back and his lips touched Kylian’s temple. Despite the heat, goosebumps rose on Kylian’s skin. “Let’s find us some chairs in the shade before I turn into a lobster.”
Kylian glanced over. Rian’s shoulders were already red. “Dang. Let’s get you coated in sunscreen. I forgot the McKinley boys only have two shades. White and red.”
“Sean has two shades. I have a third. Freckled.”
With a laugh, they waved their goodbyes to the guys and headed for a spot in the corner with two lounge chairs. One was in the sun. The other was shaded. Rian set their bag on Kylian’s sunny seat, and they claimed the chair in the shade. Kylian set his drinks on the ground and dug through the bag, finding the sunscreen. He went to work, coating Rian’s skin.
“Speaking of Sean. If my dad isn’t a target any longer, why is Sean still there?” Kylian had been scared to ask. He didn’t want to hear an answer he wouldn’t like, but the alcohol loosened his tongue.
“Sean’s job with your father is a legitimate one. Bryson hired my company. Sean is protecting him.”
“Okay.” Kylian watched his hands as they moved across Rian’s back. Rian turned. Kylian went to work on his chest.
Rian put his hands over Kylian’s, stopping him. “You believe me, right?”
Kylian’s gaze shot to Rian’s beautiful green eyes. It was obvious Kylian’s answer mattered to him. “Of course. You’ve always been honest with me.”
A small smile touched Rian’s lips. He looked mollified. “Good. I need you to know I’d never hurt you.”
It might have been the alcohol, but Kylian felt teary-eyed at the claim. “I know. You’d better know I’d never hurt you either.”
A smile exploded across Rian’s features. “Except that one time you poisoned me.”
A loud laugh burst from Kylian. “I didn’t poison you.”
“Poison? What?” The throuple appeared from nowhere with more drinks. Yaro stole his chair. “What’s this about you poisoning Rian?” He handed Kylian another drink.
Kylian laughed. “If I didn’t know better, I’d think you’re trying to get me drunk.”
Yaro’s eyes flashed with laughter. “Is it working?”
Kylian took a huge gulp of the drink, risking a brain freeze for everyone’s entertainment. “Let’s find out,” he said after killing half the drink.
The guys laughed. Kylian glanced over to find Rian smiling. He looked genuinely happy. In that moment, Kylian knew he would do anything for Rian. Kill. Steal. Even make a fool of himself at this party. There was no low too low as long as Rian smiled. That was all he wanted from this life.
Chapter Nine
TheworldspunaroundKylian, but he was in a happy bubble. He had lost count of how many of the orange things he drank. His chest and throat hurt from laughing. The more Rian had smiled throughout the day, the more ridiculous Kylian had become. Now, he unsteadily made his way to dinner after clumsily dressing in the first clothes he found. The guys had been waiting in the hall after they dressed. Kylian didn’t know how they always managed to be wherever Rian and he were, but he liked them, so it didn’t matter.
As they made the long walk through the hotel, Kylian was mesmerized by the ceiling. It looked exactly like the night sky. He had noticed a lot of hotels had daytime skies in their buildings. The Luna was the only one with a starry night sky. It was beautiful.
Rian’s arms wrapped around Kylian’s waist from behind, pulling him to a stop. His mouth touched Kylian’s ear. “Look. They have a wedding chapel. Are you going to put me out of my misery and marry me?”
He’d had too much to drink. Rian sounded too happy and seemed serious. Kylian was in his feelings. “Sure.” After all, what happened in Vegas…
