Kylian flashed him a smile. “Bye. Thanks for keeping me company.” After Warden nodded and dipped from the room, Kylian went back to Rian’s question. “I want you to eat. Then we’ll figure out something.”
“Okay. Just think about it. It’s still your summer break. I don’t want you to waste it.”
An odd thought hit Kylian as Rian dug into his lunch. His statement sounded as if he expected Kylian would stay the entire summer with him. When he had agreed to come here, Rian hadn’t mentioned how long he wanted Kylian to stay, but Kylian had been under the impression it would only be for a few days. Now he didn’t know what to think.
“We should take a trip,” Rian said between bites. “I cleared up some things this morning, opening my calendar. Warden is more than equipped to handle things for a couple of weeks. We should travel. I don’t get to do that often. I’m a bit of a workaholic.”
Kylian had been ready to refuse before Rian added that last part. The entire reason he had left his dad’s place was because Rian wanted him to try out some business opportunities. Now Rian talked about traveling instead. The thing was, though, they had the whole summer. If Kylian returned to school, he would likely go back to see his dads for a week or so before the first semester. Otherwise, he had time to do whatever. Not to mention, he enjoyed spending time with Rian. If Rian needed a break, then Kylian would be his travel companion.
“Truthfully, I absolutely love to travel, but I don’t really have anyone to go with anymore. My best friend, Cheyenne, chose a college in California and has a whole new group of friends now. I suppose I should stop calling her my best friend. She has a new one now.” Kylian fought the urge to rub his chest. Those words hurt more than he wanted anyone to know. He had spent so much time with Cheyenne, sharing years of friendship and secrets. No one had ever been closer to him. Kylian had dreams where they would sit and talk. Then he would wake up and remember they didn’t do that anymore. Lately, he had too many things depressing him. He tried to keep that pain from his voice.
“Anyhow, we used to take trips all the time. I’d love for this summer not to be as dull as I expected.”
Rian visibly hung on every word. Kylian swore he felt Rian taking in every detail, seeing too much. “You have me now. What’s your favorite place to visit? Or would you rather explore someplace new?”
“Let’s go somewhere new.” A thought hit Kylian. “Oh. Can we go to Vegas? I know I’m not old enough to gamble, but I’ve never been there. My dad wouldn’t take me. He said it’s full of homeless people yelling at you everywhere you go, and people who won’t stop bothering you to take a photo with them.”
Rian chuckled. “Those things are true, but it’s not so bad. I have a friend who owns a hotel casino there. He’d let you gamble. In fact.” Rian checked his watch. “June is Pride Month, so there’ll be a lot of Pride events happening at various hotels. This is the perfect time to go. I’ll give my friend a call. It’s his town, so I have to let him know I’m coming for pleasure, not business.”
Kylian was fascinated. “Who owns Vegas, or should I not ask that?”
“His name is Zander. You’d like him.” Rian took another bite of his food before continuing. “He owns the whole west coast. Likely, he won’t actually be in Vegas. He lives in California.”
“There’s really this entire world most people know nothing about, isn’t there?”
“Money rules the world, sexy. Either people have it, or they don’t. Those who do likely didn’t get it legally, and will kill to keep it. That’s just the way of things.”
That made Kylian a little sad. He understood things simply were the way they were. Greed would always exist. But Kylian also knew he couldn’t judge since he had spent his whole life benefiting from the way things were, even if it was unknowingly. Still, Rian had said Kylian gave him a place to be soft and maybe that was how he could make the world better. It seemed like such a small dream, but it was his, and Kylian wanted it. So, that was what he would do. For now, he would soften Rian every way he could. In the process, maybe he made the world a little better. At the very least, it made his world brighter.
Going to Vegas was the perfect plan. He could take some time off and Zander would ensure his safety while in town. They would already have an excuse to be on the west coast. That would give his guys a chance to slip into Colorado and take care of Kylian’s mother. Word on the street was, she was happily living her life with a new, rich target. She had three small stepchildren who were the new target of her cruelty. Rian wouldn’t burden Kylian with any of that. He would never let Kylian see that side of things.
Rian would freely admit coming home in bloody clothes had been a bit of a test. If Kylian couldn’t handle the reality of Rian, it was best to know that immediately. To Rian’s satisfaction, Kylian hadn’t batted an eye. He was nothing short of absolute perfection.
Rian booked a private flight for them. Despite being raised in wealth, apparently, Kylian had never taken a private plane. He inspected everything like a kid on crack.
“I’ve never sat on a couch on a plane. I can’t believe you always travel like this.”
“To be fair, I don’t travel often. But,” Rian stood and pulled Kylian to his feet. He walked to the back of the plane and opened the door. “This aircraft has the perfect feature to kill the three hours we have left.”
Kylian gasped. “I thought this led to the bathroom or something. It’s a whole bedroom.”
Rian towed him inside and shut the door, giving them privacy from his two guards and the flight staff.
Kylian moved to the bed and sat. He bounced. “Surprisingly comfortable.” Kylian crooked his finger, calling Rian closer. Rian closed the distance between them. Once he was between Kylian’s knees, Kylian smoothed his hands up Rian’s chest. “I forgot to tell you how much I love this relaxed look on you. This sexy V-neck shirt.” Kylian lured him down so he could kiss the skin above the line of Rian’s shirt. His hands moved to the button of Rian’s shorts. “And these gorgeous shorts that shape your cute butt.”
Rian flip-flopped between smiling and losing his breath. Kylian was his kryptonite. “Are you aiming to join the mile-high club, love?”
A sexy chuckle rumbled from Kylian as he lured Rian into bed. “Maybe I just want to touch you a little and steal all your kisses.”
“All of them?”
Kylian nodded, looking sweet and delectable as he settled on his back with Rian’s body covering his. “All of them. I don’t like to share.”
Possessiveness roared through Rian. That wasn’t a point he had considered he needed to clarify, but absolutely Kylian belonged to him. “What about your kisses? Do all of them belong to me?” They had fucking better. When Kylian nodded, some of Rian’s ire dissipated. Still, Rian needed more. “We’re exclusive. You know that, right? You’re marrying me.”
The laugh that burst from Kylian could only be described as pure joy. “That’s the second time you’ve spoken of marriage.”
A husband couldn’t be compelled to testify against him and Kylian was too close. “You didn’t answer me. We’re exclusive.”
