Her body was pressed up tight to mine, and her lips were just below my mouth.

I was worked up, my anger heating my blood and igniting my lust for her.

Her plump lips begged to be kissed.

We stared at each other, our breaths heaving.

The next moment, I let out a groan and dropped my mouth to hers, capturing her lips in a desperate kiss.

She let out a gasp, parting her lips further, and I slipped my tongue inside to tangle with hers.

She was tense for several seconds, but then, she moaned and melted into me as she wrapped her arms around my neck.

She pressed her body tighter to mine, and my dick twitched as I slid my hands down past her waist and hips to tightly grip her backside.

She felt so good.

Softer and curvier than when she’d been eighteen.

The boy I’d been back then had been eager to touch her, but the man I was now wanted to stake my claim and make her mine.

That thought startled me.

Despite how soft and eager her lips were, and despite how perfectly her body fit against mine, I pulled back, bringing the kiss to an abrupt end.

She stared up at me, her cheeks flushed and her brow furrowed in confusion.

“What…?” she began in a breathless tone.

I swallowed. “Sam, we shouldn’t…”

Realization dawned in her eyes, and she shoved away from me, jumping back as if I’d burned her. Her eyes narrowed into a glare, and she clenched her jaw and fists.

“I knew it,” she said. “Goddamn it, I knew you hadn’t changed.”

“Sam, hold on…”

“No!” she shouted. “I’m not going to let you do this to me again, Ryan. Stay away from me!”

Her voice was layered with obvious hurt, and I knew I was sending her mixed messages and confusing her.

I didn’t want to cause her any kind of pain, but I just didn’t know what to do at that moment. I was paralyzed with indecision and uncertainty.

Turning on her heel, she ran back to the bar door and disappeared inside.

I was tempted to follow her and apologize, to explain, but I had no idea what I would say to her.

I knew she was going to want assurances from me.

Promises of a future and stability if she was even going to consider giving me a second chance, but I wasn’t certain at that point if I could give those to her.

Deciding it was best that I didn’t go back into the bar, I slowly made my way around the building to the front parking lot to get into my car and head home.

I’d make it up to Jason later, but I’d already ruined a good chunk of Sam’s life.

The least I could do was not to ruin the rest of her night.
