“Maybe it felt tiring because you were always the one taking the lead,” I suggested. “Maybe you need a partner who will take care ofyou.”
He smiled sadly. “That’s never what girls are looking for.”
“Who says it has to be a girl?” Emboldened by the wine, I fixed him with a meaningful look.
Jun stared at me wide-eyed. “Sir?”
“You should try it the other way. See if you like it.”I’ll bet you would. Let me show you…I slid my foot forward under the table and touched the side of his shoe—my warm sock brushing his tight-laced leather.
Jun jerked his foot back and abruptly stood, his chair scraping along the hardwood. “I’m going to get a sparkling water,” he stammered, heading to the fridge. “Would you like one?”
“Yeah. Thanks,” I said. Maybe this was his way of telling me I needed to cool off. I was getting too buzzed and turning things unprofessional.
But when I glimpsed his face from behind the fridge door, he didn’t wear the disapproving frown I expected. He was blushing, lips pressed together, eying me in silent assessment. He looked…curious.
Jun came back with a couple of bottled mineral waters, sat down, and handed me one. “Sorry,” he said with a nervous smile. “You didn’t need to hear my life story.” He twisted off the cap with a hiss of carbonation.
“Aww, come on,” I said. “You’ve already seen what a wreck my life is. It’s nice to know I’m not the only one who needs help sometimes.”
Jun’s eyes hung on me with the desperate longing of a starving man gazing through a bakery window. Or so I thought, before he glanced down and the expression was gone. Jun scanned the table with his mineral water in hand, perhaps searching for a glass to pour it into. He must have decidedfuck itbecause he took a sip straight from the bottle. He set it down and looked at me with a somber expression.
“What?” I asked. Was he thinking of accepting my not-so-subtle offer?
“I wish you would take the pills.”
“That again?” I groaned and slid down in my seat. “Studio’s orders?”
“No. I just think you would feel better.”
“If you really want me to feel better, how about you let me suck your dick?”Oh, God! Did I just say that out loud?
Jun goggled at me, stunned.
Shit!I’d gone too far with that one. I thought of saying I was just kidding, but that would have been the coward’s way out. “No pressure. Just offering.” I chuckled nervously, and it sounded strained even to my ears.
He squirmed uncomfortably, and his eyes darted to the kitchen door. “I’d better go.”
Shit, shit, shit!“Hey, I’m sorry,” I said. “I wasn’t trying to be a creep. Just ignore me.”
“No, it’s, uh… It’s getting late.” He set his napkin on his plate and pushed his chair back.
My veins ran with ice water as I watched him step away from the table. I wanted to grab his sleeve and make him stay, but I’d only make things worse if I didn’t let him make a clean getaway. So, I shut up and stayed put, my brain churning fruitlessly for a way to fix this.
The front door closed with a soft click, and I was alone again.
The room was quiet as a tomb without Jun. It felt colder somehow, too, like his presence kept the chill at bay. Jun’s napkin lay over his plate of pasta like a sheet over a dead body. This dinner was deceased, and I had killed it.
Dammit, Einar. What’s wrong with you?I rubbed my forehead. Maybe Jun was right, and I wasn’t thinking straight without the damned pills.
Jun’s glass still had a thin layer of wine at the bottom. I could see the translucent smudge where his lip had touched the glass. Fuck it. I picked up the glass and traced my tongue along the edge, imagining that I could capture a second-hand taste of his essence. Shame prickled up my neck, but it didn’t make me want him any less. So I drank every drop, imagining that I swallowed traces of Jun.
Chapter 10 (Jun)
My heart pounded as I hustled down the front steps of Sir’s house to my car. Had Sir really just made a pass at me? I wanted to dismiss it as a drunken joke, but after all the times I’d caught him staring, I knew better.
“Let me suck your dick. That would make us both happy.”
Would it? Forbidden images flashed through my mind: firm hands caressing my body, blond hair tumbling around his shoulders as he parted his lips and drew me into his mouth... I adjusted the front of my slacks.
