The fact that there are also some gorgeous kitten heels in the box has my mind reeling. He has something incredible planned; that much is obvious, but why? And what? And more to the point… where is he? I know he said that he might be working a little late tonight, and I should go off without him, but this seems a little suspicious now.
I call him, just to see if I can get him to confess, but he doesn’t even answer the phone to me. He lets it ring out until I feel the like frustration inside of me might just burst free.Right, screw it,I finally give in.Just get dressed, go out to dinner, and find out once and for all what is going on.It’s clear now that I’m not going to find out any other way, so I might as well focus on looking my best.
I slide my work clothes off quickly, leaving them in a heap on the floor. I tug the gown up over my head, stopping for a moment to notice how good it looks on me. The way it fits around my body is as if it’s been made just for me, which makes me feel really special. I never realized just how amazing the right clothes can make me feel until I put on this dress. It covers my breasts, but molds to shape them perfectly, still allowing me to feel sexy. It cinches in at the waist, highlighting my curves, and even though it is floor length and I’m not very tall, it somehow manages to make my legs look like they reach my armpits. It’s safe to say that this is the best I’ve ever looked at, and that revelation makes me even more excited for what tonight might hold.
By the time I run a brush through my hair, making it look presentable enough to leave it hanging loose, and I’ve painted my face, I hear a loud honking outside, which makes me rush to the window. There I see the largest, most luxurious limo sitting in the driveway, with Alex waving at me from the window.
I run down the stairs with my heart pounding joyfully. It isn’t long before I’m next to his window, placing a sweet kiss on his lips.
“Don’t rich men like you hire drivers?” I tease.
“You know me, I’m not like other men. I do the driving myself. Now be a good girl and hop in the back, will you?”
“What is all of this?” I gasp as I climb into seats so comfortable, they could be a bed. “What is it with you tonight?”
But he doesn’t answer me; he just leaves a small smile playing on his lips. The mystery is absolutely killing me, but if Alex wants this to be some kind of surprise, then I suppose I can hold myself together. But not for long, as the anticipation is killing me.
The restaurant, when we finally get there (it turns out that Alex isn’t quite the expert driver when it comes to massive long vehicles he thought he was!), is incredible. The food is delicious, the décor amazing, and the whole place just screamsromance. It leaves me feeling really in the mood. As we enjoy wine and laugh with one another, I allow my foot to slowly and seductively run up and down his leg, trying to get him in the same mood. I can see that it’s working from the way he keeps shifting in his seat. But he hasn’t done anything to make his move just yet.
“Are you alright?” I ask a little huskily. “You seem distracted.”
“Okay,” he sighs, looking defeated, reacting opposite to what I was hoping. I just want him to join the under the table fun. “I was going to wait until after dessert because I know that’s your favorite course, but if I don’t get this out now, I never will.”
He breathes deeply for a couple of seconds before standing up with a very serious expression on his face. Panic immediately trickles down my spine like runny egg yolk. Have I ruined something with my impatience? I didn’t intend to do that.
“What are you…?” I start before everything comes clear, and he drops to one knee. My hand claps across my mouth in shock, and I can feel my entire body clam up in surprise. This is what tonight was all about. I never would have suspected in a million years. My heart is racing, my emotions spinning, and my mind flickering everywhere, and he hasn’t even opened his mouth yet!
Is this the engagement? For real? Oh my God. Dad is really going to tease me for this… not that I care. This is already the happiest I’ve ever felt in my whole life.
“Zaya Webber Connelly, I want to start by saying that you are the most amazing woman I have ever laid eyes on.” I can tell that everyone is looking at us, but I honestly don’t care. All I can focus on is Alex and the wonderful words coming out of his mouth.
“Sure, things between us haven’t always been easy, or conventional, for that matter.” I laugh a little, but the moment is taken over by the tears filling my eyes. “But we’ve made it through the sorts of drama that would tear most couples to shreds, and now we’re stronger and better than ever.” He pulls a box from his pocket. I can see the largest diamond I have ever seen – much too big for me, I won’t even know how to wear it, never mind act when it’s on my finger!
“You honestly make me the happiest man alive. I want to be with you forever, to have children with you, to…see the world together…whatever it is you want.” Yep, that’s it; the tears are streaming down my face now. “All I’ve wanted since I first laid eyes on you in that very strange interview is to make you mine and make you happy. So what do you say to be my wife?”
Wow, those words are absolutely delicious. No wonder this man turned my entire life on its head. I gave myself to him in so many ways. He has my virginity, my heart, my soul, and now my finger as well. There’s only one answer to this glorious question. I don’t even need to think about it. I’ve wanted this ever since I agreed to stay with him.
“Of course, I will,” I murmur through the tears. “Nothing would make me happier.”
The restaurant breaks into cheers, as Alex slides the ring on my extended finger. Once it’s there, it feels right. In a way, I suppose it symbolizes us as a couple. At first glance, we look like we don’t belong, and there are hundreds of reasons why we shouldn’t work, but with a bit of time, and opening up, we have come to realize that we’re perfect together, and there isn’t any other way our lives could have gone.
“You mean all that stuff?” I ask quietly as he pulls me in for a hug. “About having children, and traveling… having a whole life together? I think about that stuff all the time. I didn’t know you did.”
“I do,” he replies warmly. “I think about it all the time. I just know that we can do anything together, anything we want. If we decide to, we could be amazing parents. Especially since we’ve had our own dramas growing up. We certainly know whatnotto do.”
Ah, how right he is. I love my dad, and have put it all behind me now, but I’ll never do what he did. I’ll never drag any potential child of mine in to my drama… not that I have any. That’s all in the past now. I’m focusing only on the future.
“Then get me out of this place,” I tell him, teasing. “I think we can skip dessert tonight. There is a wonderfully comfortable limo out there, so I think we should get started.”
“Oh, always so impatient,” he jokes, taking my hand. “But that’s why I love you.”
“I love you too,” I offer with sincerity. “I’m so glad that I get to keep you forever.”
Finally, I have my place in his world, the one thing I’ve been looking for this entire time. It might be at the side of my supposed enemy, but then again, not everything goes to plan perfectly, which we have proven more than once! Kissing this man as we leave the restaurant, knowing that my happily ever after doesn’t look anything like I thought it would, is exciting. I don’t know what’s going to happen next; every day can be a surprise - what could be better than that?
I really am the luckiest woman alive. I hope the unexpected keeps throwing me into wonderful and happy situations with Alex forever. I spin around proudly as I check my reflection in the mirror once more. Today of all days, I need to look perfect. Every detail has to be incredible. The man who used to be my enemy, until he accidently became the love of my life, is waiting for me at the end of the aisle, and I can’t wait to meet him there.
“You look incredible,” Jenny tells me with tears in her eyes. “Honestly, amazing.”
