He willnottell me what to do; I’m the only one who knows what she’s doing. With that, I turn away from him and return to my office to think things through before facing Alex again. I get the strong feeling that Van is watching me, but I refuse to give him the satisfaction of turning around to catch him. One good thing about all this being done – at least I won’t have to deal with him again! I don’t know what it is about him, but he drives me crazy in the worst way possible.

Alex

Okay, itmightbea crazy idea to take everyone away from the office for three days when we have such a critical drug release in the works, but I have to admit that guy and his question regarding my staff members threw me. I wasn’t expecting it, and it made me see things in a different way.

No one should have known that information’ it should have been kept private. It makes me worry about how people see the company in reality, not just what they say to my face. If I have unhappy staff members, I need to deal with it - and now.

“This is insane,” Zaya laughs loudly, spinning in the middle of the reception area of the spa I have brought everyone to. For the moment, we need to focus on building a solid bond between us and improve communication. I know that productivity levels are much higher when everyone is happy, so for that reason, this feels like the exact moment to get everything back under control. The investors at the meeting after the press conference agreed.

“I can’t believe you organized it so quickly.”

“Well, I have a good relationship with this place,” I admit. “We’ve done our team building activities here before. Hence, why no one else is as excited as you.” She glances around, seeing that people have already gone to their rooms to pack their stuff. Zaya nods quickly before picking up her case and do the same. “Do you need a hand with that?”

I actually considered booking us a room together, but it felt presumptuous. That won’t stop us, though, if we want to end up in bed together…

“No, no, I’ll be okay. Do we need to come back once we’re unpacked?”

“Yes, the instructor will be here in a moment.” This guy is great. He’s an ex-army commander who knows how to create a fun-filled learning experience. The last time we came here, there were a lot of office disputes, and the difference when we got back was palpable. “So I’ll see you shortly.”

I make my way to my room, the penthouse suite, allowing me a few luxuries while we’re here. I love having a hot tub and a great view from my window; it helps me forget all the shit going on downstairs. As my eyes scan to the bed, I can’t help but picture Zaya in it, writhing around, allowing me to do all kinds of awesome things to her body. She’s such an incredible beauty, and I would love to be with her right now. But of course, we’re here for a reason, and I need to keep my mind centered on that.

But later on, there’s no tellingwherethe night will take us…

As we all gather in the lobby a little later and Steve introduces himself, I can’t stop from flickering my eyes over to where Zaya’s standing, looking at him intently. She makes me smile every time I see her, especially when she’s putting a lot of effort into the business. The company has become my life, and to see someone else caring about it as much as I do makes my heart flutter excitedly.

“Right, I think communication is a massive issue here,” Steve says as he glances at us all. Finally, when he gets to me, I nod quickly, confirming what he’s already suspected. “And that affects motivation, so what I’m going to do for you is write your names on a piece of paper and pick you out to put you in pairs. Then we will have a fun day of friendly competition. It doesn’t matter if you aren’t paired with someone you work with directly. What you need to have a successful company is communication throughout.”

I can see people shooting me an anxious look, not wanting to be paired with the boss, which I understand for awkward reasons. So I don’t make eye contact with any of them, focusing on Steve instead.

Once he’s done, he starts putting people together, somehow working through the thick anticipation filling the room. “Okay, so Chris and Tara, Michelle and Henry, Fleur and Harry, Ben and Josh, Alex and…” Oh God, who is it going to be? All of a sudden, this feels like a bad idea. “Zaya.”

Oh wow… I couldn’t have even wished for that if I wanted to. That feels incredible, which gets even better as she shoots me a sweet smile. I no longer care. I don’t even listen to the rest of the names. As if, by some miracle, I have been put with the person I want to be with.

Thank you, Steve. You saved the day!

We all begin relaxing and having fun as soon as Steve starts the games. I knew it would turn out that way because it always does, but it makes me feel good, nonetheless. I need a happy company. I want content employees, and to see them having a good time together feels great. This is why I always go all out for the company Christmas party.

To make it even better, Zaya’s and my superb teamwork skills are coming out again, and we seem to be winning almost everything. Of course, competition is fierce, but that doesn’t bother her, and she’s whipping everyone without a second glance.

“Another first place,” I grin as she jumps with joy. “You won’t be defeated, will you?”

“If you haven’t worked that out by now, you never will.”

As someone walks over to congratulate and chat with her for a few moments, I drink in her appearance. She’s wearing leggings and a tight tee shirt. I imagine it’s to ensure that she’s more streamlined, which is much more casual than I usually see her, and she looks good. Of course, I enjoy seeing her in her work clothes, looking professional and put together, but I also love seeing more of her body in tight clothing. She has some incredible curves, and I cannot stop staring.

“Right, gang,” Steve calls out, interrupting all the chit chat. “It’s time for the relay race, so you must join one more team and get into position.”

Someone grabs Zaya, obviously wanting to lock into her winning streak, but I’m no longer concerned with winning. I’m no longer worrying about anything at all. All I can see is the odd look on Zaya’s face. She doesn’t look quite right, like herself, which has me worried.

“Are you okay?” I ask quietly. She nods quickly, but I’m not convinced. She’s pale, and her face has an odd green twinge as if she could be sick at any moment. “Do you need to sit down?”

As she walks toward the race starting line, there’s a definite stagger, which has me reaching out to her; but before I connect, her eyes roll to the back of her head, and her body starts to collapse. I race as quickly as I can as she falls, and I manage to grab her just before she hits the ground.

“Steve, call an ambulance!” I cry out loudly. “Zaya’s collapsed.”

I don’t know what could be wrong with her. She seemed fine all day, but I need her checked out to be safe. Of course, I would want to do that for anyone, but this is Zaya, and she’s special to me. I need her to be safe.

“Someone, get some water. Get some towels… or blankets. What do we need?”
