My eyes roamed upwards, looking straight at him.
“Most girls your age look forward to high school dances.” A subtle smirk began to form on his attractive mouth.
“I’m not most girls, am I?” I answered with attitude.
“No, clearly not.” He finished his drink and sighed.
Fine, if he wants to play head games with me, he’s met his match,I said to myself.
“Thereisthis guy …”
“Oh, yeah? Tell me about him.”
Now I had his full attention. Excellent.
“His name’s Ryan, and I think he likes me.”
Noah was silent for a brief while, expressionless.
Damn it, what are you thinking?
“Has he asked you out?”
I nodded.
“Do you like him?”
“Yeah, I think he’s really cute and nice.”
Jeez, cute and nice? Was that seriously the best description I could give?Fail.
“Bring him over to the house sometime. I’d like to meet him.”
“Sure.” I suddenly lost my appetite and didn’t want to eat anymore. “By the way, he’s captain of the swim team—oh, and the football team.”
“So, he’s athletic,” said Noah, grabbing another fry. “Very good.”
I nodded again. “And he’s an amazing swimmer too.”
“Which is probably why he’s captain …”
“Um, yeah.”
Duh, Aria. This conversation felt so awkward. And my vendetta to make him jealous was clearly not working.
“I was athletic when I was in high school,” he said. “I was also captain of my swim team, football, and track.”
“Wow, I didn’t know that.” Of course he would be. I didn’t expect anything less. Noah was just perfect in all things.
“You still have a lot to learn about me, Aria.” He stared right through me, making me shiver despite the heat.
“I guess it’s good that you have me so close to you now.” That came out sounding more flirtatious than I intended.
“It’s definitely …” He paused. “Good.”
Noah looked into my eyes with his soul-penetrating stare, showing a hint of a smile as he leaned forward to brush my hair out of my face. His fingertips accidentally grazed my skin, and it made me tremble. I began to breathe with ease again when he moved his hand away.
“Have you and Vanessa made up yet?” I asked.
