Fortunately for us, we didn’t hit any traffic, and it didn’t take very long to get back to my place. Evan didn’t drive a luxury vehicle like Noah did. His whip was a black ’67 Impala that was in dire need of a carwash. He stopped the car in front of my driveway and looked at me.

“So will I see you again?” I asked, unbuckling my seat belt.

“If you like.” The corner of his mouth tugged up into a charming smile. “Text or call me. I’m usually free after seven, depending on my work hours.” He leaned forward and looked through my window. “You better get inside beforeyou know whosees us.”

The only reason I had asked my uncle to drive me home was so that Noahwouldsee me with him. I guess the rebel within wanted to piss him off after what I’d seen that morning.

“Hey, Aria,” Evan called out. “Thanks for contacting me. I know you don’t know me too well, but I hope that in time I could become someone you can count on.”

“You’re sweet.” I smiled.

“Only being honest.” He matched my expression.

I was about to leave, settling over the fact that Noah was not going to storm out the door when …

“Aria!”

Mission accomplished. He’d caught us, all right … and he sounded angry.Reallyangry.

“I’ll text you later.” I kissed Evan on the cheek before stepping out.

“You better go.”

“Tell Noah I said hi.” He smirked at me and pressed his foot down on the gas pedal, flooring it out of the driveway.

“What the hell were you doing in his car?”

I was spun around by a firm pair of hands on my shoulders, forced to look into the furious eyes of the man known as my father.

“We ran into each other at the mall and he offered to drive me home, so I let him.” I removed his hands and casually strolled past him, entering the house. Noah followed, making me jump when he slammed the door shut.

“Don’t lie to me.” His tone was resentful.

“I’m not.” I tried to meet his eyes, but I just couldn’t. Instead, I ignored the interrogation and headed straight to my room.

“Noah, honey, what’s going on?”

Great. The last thing I needed was my stepmom sticking her nose in my business.

“Nothing you need to worry about,” he calmly answered and came after me, shouting my name again.

“Aria!”

I closed my bedroom door, which was essentially pointless. My lock was broken, and Noah would just walk right in anyway.

“Since when do you lie to me?”

Disappointment and outrage—it was all on his face when he entered my room and closed the door behind him.

“When you started lying to me!” I seethed.

“What the hell are you talking about?” He frowned and rested his hands on his hips.

“You know exactly what I’m talking about.”

I was going to cry again. No! No! Stupid, sensitive emotions!
