“You look absolutely beautiful,” Franny said. “And yes, it’s your wedding, and you do get to enjoy that.”
“Exactly,” Addie answered, smiling at her maid of honor. “And trust me, I plan to.”
Franny laughed. “Well, that’s all well and good. But when Ruzyll and I get married, and you’re in my bridal party, get ready for me to do the same.”
“To be fair, you already look beautiful.” Addie pulled out a necklace with a large blue gem on it. “Help me with one more thing. This belonged to my mother. It means a lot to me, but I’m not sure it goes with the colors. Do I wear it on the inside or the outside?”
“Do you want people to see it?”
Addie slipped the necklace over her head. “I think I do.”
“Then wear it out. They’re your colors. You get to keep them if you want to.”
Addie nodded and then looked at herself one more time in the mirror.
She loved it.
“Time to head down?”
Franny nodded. “Time to get this done.”
Addie opened the door and stepped out into the hall of the mansion. As she did, a small voice stopped her.
“Well, hello there.”
Addie turned. Gerri stood behind her in the hall, smiling as impishly as ever.
“Gerri! What are you doing here?”
“I wouldn’t miss the marriage of one of my clients for the world,” Gerri replied. “But unfortunately, I have more work I have to do today. Always more lonely people and always more couples to bring together. So I’m taking a moment to say hi before the wedding in case I don’t get the chance afterward.”
Franny stepped out of the room. “Okay, but how’d you get past security? The mansion’s supposed to be locked up tighter than a drum.”
Gerri laughed. “Well, now, it is called the Paranormal Dating Agency, isn’t it? I have ways of getting where I need to be.”
“Well, Franny’s going to have nightmares about that,” Addie said. “But first, there’s a question I wanted to ask you.”
“What is it?”
Addie took a moment to gather her thoughts. It was something she’d thought about quite a bit, especially when she was planning the wedding.
“Did you see all of this coming? I mean, when you brought us together, did you know how it would go? That we’d be here one day?”
“That’s an excellent question,” said Gerri. “And the answer is no. I didn’t see any of this coming.”
“But you have a 100 percent success rate. I mean, you must have …”
“I have my ways of seeing what I call possibilities. People who have everything they need to make something wonderful. But what is it they make? How do they make it? That’s always a surprise. And that’s what makes my work worth doing.”
Addie nodded. “So me and Mahes. We really did all of this on our own?”
“I only introduced you. The rest was all you.”
Addie embraced the petite woman. “Well, I can never thank you enough for that. You completely changed the path of my life.”
“You did the hard part,” the woman replied.
The three women went down the stairs together. There, Gerri went off to join the guests at the wedding while Franny and Addie went around to the back to join the rest of the bridal party.
