Mahes looked at her. “You okay?”
She nodded. “Yeah, it’s refreshing when people aren’t running at you wanting your signature.”
Mahes chuckled, pulling her tighter. “I’m sure. You know I would never let anything happen to you even if they did.”
He kissed the top of her head, pulling them along. She felt safe as he held her close. She trusted her lion shifter would protect her.
Tyiers talked, and she wasn’t really listening after a while. He named places and rattled information. She was listening to Mahes more, who was stating things a little simpler.
His hand felt hot in hers, and she looked forward to their arrival at the palace. She could see the hunger in his eyes every time he looked at her.
They stopped when Tyiers was talking about a building. Mahes pulled her toward an alleyway, and she went with him.
“Should we be sneaking away from him?” she asked, unsure. She didn’t know all the rules, but it seemed wrong to walk down an alleyway with the king.
“Of course,” he said in his husky voice. “How else am I going to do this?”
She wasn’t sure what he meant until she was pinned against the wall. He pressed her hands above her head, pressing his body against hers. She inhaled sharply, his skin hot against hers.
His lips pressed against her roughly, taking her breath away. She moaned softly, aching for him. She kept thinking about the pool and how his hands grazed against her so swiftly.
His hand moved over her face, trailing down her chin and her neck. A shiver raked over her body as she felt his breath against her neck.
“I would love nothing more than to strip you bare and fuck you right here right now. The way you've been swaying your ass this whole time has done nothing but make my cock hard.”
She blushed, her eyes looking past him toward the crowd. No one seemed to notice them in the dark, and she felt a little naughty, wanting to give in to him.
His hand tugged at her dress, his fingers grazing her breast. She chewed on her lip, trying to keep herself quiet.
“This dress is going to be the end of me.”
She laughed because she couldn’t help it. She looked at him. His eyes glowed in the dark. She wondered if that was his lion side.
“That was the point," she whispered. "I wanted you to watch me."
He growled at her, taking her mouth once more. This kiss was deeper, his mouth devouring her like he didn’t think he’d ever get the chance again.
Someone clearing their throat gave them pause. They both turned their heads to see Tyiers standing in the space of the alleyway. He didn’t hold any expression on his face, but she could guess he was embarrassed and probably a little ticked they disappeared.
She looked at Mahes, who sighed. “We lost you,” he lied, pulling back from her. He fixed his shirt, covering her so she could fix herself.
She fixed her dress, looking at Tyiers, who didn’t look to believe them. He simply just nodded. “We are heading to the restaurant next.”
Mahes waved a hand. “Lead the way.”
Tyiers looked at her and then back to Mahes. “Yes, don’t fall behind this time. It’s a lot of turns, and I would hate to lose you again.”
She snorted, quickly covering her mouth from laughing out loud. Mahes took her hand, pulling her along, unfazed by the remark.
They headed to a large restaurant with a skylight in the ceiling. When she entered, she was stunned to take in plants that lined the wall. The air felt crisp in the building, and the lights were dimmed. It was like she had entered into a whole new world once more.
They took a seat in the back, and a bottle of wine was placed down on the table. She looked at the waiter. “May I get some water?”
Mahes laughed as he looked across the table at her. “Don't want a repeat of last night?”
As much as she loved the wine and enjoyed the way she felt with it, she didn’t. She had every intention of sleeping with Mahes, and she didn’t need wine getting in the way.
“No,” she said, smirking at him. “I don’t.”
