Cole let out a soft cry, his eyes still shut.
“Hey,” she whispered softly. “It’s just a dream. I won’t let anything hurt you.”
She wouldn’t. Not ever. She’d made a mess of her life so far, but it stopped right now. This little baby in her arms didn’t deserve her tears or her fears. He deserved to grow up happy. To know he was loved more than anything.
He deserved the world.
“It’s just you and me, kid,” she whispered, and Cole’s lips curled. It was too soon to be a smile, she knew that, but it still looked so much like one.
Her heart filled with love for the vulnerable curled up baby in her arms.
It was just her and him. And that was okay.

Being inside of the woman he adored felt like he’d ripped off a little bit of heaven and hid it in his heart. She was looking up at him, her swollen lips parted, her eyes never leaving his. Her skin was pink from coming once already, her hands digging into his behind as he moved in and out of her.
He leaned down to kiss her and he felt himself tighten.
“Kris, it’s too much. I’m gonna…”
“I know.” He could feel her tighten around him again. He was gritting his teeth trying not to come too soon, not to end this moment. It was too much. Too perfect.
Too everything.
“But don’t stop,” she added quickly.
“Not planning on it.” He kissed the corner of her mouth, her throat, the swell of her breast. And then he pulled her nipple between his lips, sucking on her as she called out his name again. This time higher, needier, as she convulsed around him.
And he was coming, too. Surging inside of her, every part of him buzzing with electricity as she raked her nails down his back. They were kissing, their mouths moving as their bodies stilled, and he felt the emotion pull at his chest.
When he pulled out she was smiling at him, her face shining.
And he grinned back, because she made everything feel good. “Come here,” he rolled over, pulling her with him, loving the way she fit perfectly into the crook of his arm.
“Twice in two hours. That’s pretty impressive,” she teased.
“Yeah, well, until I can persuade you to stay over again I have to make sure you leave sated.”
“I’m definitely sated.” She sighed against his skin. “And I can’t stay tonight. Cole has a dentist appointment in the morning and then I’ll need to drive him to school.”
“I know.” He kissed her temple. “You sure you don’t want me to go with you?”
“No. I remember how much you hate the dentist.”
He grimaced. “I don’t hate the dentist. I hate needles.”
She laughed, wriggling her fingers. “I swear my hand is still deformed from the way you held onto it so tight when you had to get that filling.”
“Yeah, well it was your fault. You always brought candy wherever we went.”
“I also brushed my teeth religiously.”
He lifted a brow. “So did I.” He ran his fingers down her side and she nestled closer into him. “Can I take Cole out to dinner on Saturday?” he asked her. “After the father son match? Apparently everybody’s heading to the diner at Marshall’s Gap. Reece’s dad called me to ask if I wanted him to save us seats.” He gave her a lopsided smile. “If you can get off work maybe you can come, too?”
“I can’t. It’s the last weekend before Christmas. All hands on deck at the tavern.” She reached out to trace the line of his jaw. “Thank you for being so kind to Cole.”
“I feel like I have a lot of time to make up for.”
