I smile as I look up at him. “I know,” I pant.
“Do you want me to kill you? ’Cause I will.” Ethan’s voice startles me. He’s right behind me. Must have come out of the kitchen.
I straighten up. “Look!” I point at my nose. “I put it on so I could run to you two.”
They look at me, unimpressed.
Sometimes my eyes catch the grayish stain on the floor. It’s big. No matter how many times the guys wash it, there’s no way of avoiding the exact place in the house I was shot and almost bled to death.
Hands down the scariest shit that’s ever happened to me.
And fuck, how I didn’t want to die.
“Let me take this off and I have good news to tell you.”
I go to rip it off, but Ethan slaps my hand away. “I swear if you’re not careful, you’ll become a twenty-four-seven pet, baby. No more going out, no more walking on two legs. You’ll just be lounging around as my little kitten. That way, I know you’re not doing anything to put yourself in danger.”
I roll my eyes, but Elliot is on me next. He gently lowers the ring that keeps the tube tight under my chin, unhooks the plastic from behind my ears, and slowly pulls it out of my nose.
To say they’ve become overprotective since I left the hospital would be an understatement, but I try to handle it one day at a time.
“Nice and slow, my love.”
“Whatever.” I jump on the spot, too excited to keep the news for myself any longer. “I got the job!”
The proud smiles that break free on their faces make my heart melt.
“Congratulations!” Ethan beams.
He kisses my lips, slowly and tenderly, until he’s replaced by Elliot’s hungry mouth. Just like he always does, he sucks at my lower lip until it swells, and I smile against him.
“Well done, baby. We knew you were the best candidate.”
Because breathing has become less than an easy task to do, Kay said she didn’t want to risk having me working for the Kings. She said I could if I really wanted to, but felt like Ethan and Elliot would be a fucking pain.
Absolutely they were.
So I looked for another job. I have the chance to be supported by the two men I love, and I went for it.
I applied for a job as a mechanic in a garage on the South Bank. And after today’s interview, I got it.
I told Kay I still wanted to help as much as I could. We’re sisters. I’m not leaving her in the mess she’s currently in. The North Shore is still ours, but who knows for how long now that we lost the deal with the Wolvesandthe money from the bank.
I know she won’t leave me in the dark with what happens next. That as soon as she can, she’ll get me back on board. Probably behind Elliot’s and Ethan’s backs.
“We kind of knew you’d get the job,” Ethan says. “So we got you a little something.”
He goes into the kitchen and comes back with a little ball of white fluff in his arms.
It moves.
And it has ears.
“It’s a bunny.” My voice is barely a whisper. I can hardly believe it. “It’s a bunny… You got me a bunny.”
“You know your animals pretty well,” Elliot chuckles.
“Oh my god,” I gasp as Ethan puts it on the floor.
