I thought the siren would make Agent Muldoon attack me but instead he slaps the gun against my palm and puts his hands up.

He really is nuts.

I think I might actually have a chance to get him in my car, though what I'll do with him then, I have no idea. Despite my police record and the rumors, I am not a criminal mastermind.

There's a squeal of tires and I glance behind me to see Creed and Jake bump into my car and then jump out of their truck. Thank God they're here. I let out a long breath in relief.

Muldoon looks at the two of them and says, "She's crazy. She stole a bunch of money and I was just trying to stop her. But she pulled a gun on me."

"What?" I gape at him.

To add to the confusion, an Eagle Canyon cruiser arrives right behind Creed and Jake and Sergeant Gary Wallace hops out, gun drawn.

"Get back, Creed and Jake," he says, holding the gun on me.

"I'm glad you're here," Muldoon says. "She's a wanted criminal and I was just about to apprehend her."

"Tracy, put the gun down," Sergeant Wallace says to me and his tone isn't friendly.

"He's lying," I say. "He's the crazy one."

"Tracy, you need to put the gun down," Jake says.

I'd sort of forgotten I was holding it, but I glance down at my hand and see the weapon. I should carefully put it down on the ground, but you know what? I've had a very annoying morning and this guy, Muldoon, has caused me a huge amount of problems, so instead of putting it down, I use the heavy gun to smack him in the head.

CHAPTER19

Creed

"This is sort of awkward,"I say.

"I'm so sorry," Tracy says. "This isn't how I wanted things to go at all."

"Yeah," Jake says, glancing around the holding cell, "not how I'd planned to spend the day either."

"I can't believe Gary put us all under arrest," I say. "What the hell is wrong with him?"

Tracy is pale and she's staring at the bars around us.

"Sweetheart, are you okay?" I ask, taking her hand.

"I-I just never expected to be behind bars again. And, it's not my fault this time either."

"Hush now," I say, putting my arm around her and pulling her close against my side. She's shivering.

"Where's that fucker Muldoon?" Jake asks, going to the cell door and looking around, but there's nothing to see. We all know it. "Shouldn't he be in here instead of us?"

"I'm more pissed at Gary. He knows better than to lock us up."

"At least we're all together," Tracy says. "I don't know if I could take being locked up again if you guys weren't here."

"Come on," I say, "let's sit down." There's a hard bench molded into the wall and I take Tracy over there. I sit and then pull her onto my lap.

"This is all my fault," Tracy says. "I wanted to get you guys something special. I-I wanted to propose to you. Y-you know, to make up for not accepting a long time ago."

"Tracy," Jake says, "this is not your fault. It's that crazy FBI agent's fault. I can't believe Gary is listening to him."

"You wanted to propose to us?" I say, ignoring Jake's words.
