Chapter Twenty - Five
Sienna
I woke up before Ryder and found him with an arm tucked under his head, while the other was draped over his naked abdomen. I smiled as I took in his completely naked body. It was too hot, and we were too energetic last night. We’d reached for each other at various times during the night, and it only now occurred to me that I hadn’t taken the time to appreciate what a perfect specimen he was. But with the early morning sunlight streaming through the window, I was definitely going to take advantage of the quiet moment.
An idea popped into my mind and I couldn’t help but smile. I reached down and wrapped my hand around him, watching his face for any reaction. As gracefully as I could manage, I positioned myself between his legs and set to my task, sucking and licking him. While using one hand to work him in synchronized strokes, I balanced my weight on the other.
He stretched and groaned a little. “Darlin’.” His voice was raspy with sleep, and a hand came to rest on my head as I moved my mouth off him before licking him from root to tip.
“Morning, cowboy.” I licked my lips before taking all of him into my mouth again. He moaned once more, and I felt myself swell with pride at the noise. He was totally loving every moment of this.
He was about to say something else, but I shook my head before freeing him from my mouth. “No talking. Just enjoy this morning. Fair is fair, cowboy.”
In minutes, he was wrung dry and panting. I sat beside him, happily grinning like the Cheshire cat. “I promised Kenzie that I’d help her out with the vegetable patch today, while Savannah’s in town at Logan’s.” I ran my hand along his well-defined abdominal muscles. “What are you doing? You won’t miss me too much, will you?”
He looked at the red-digits of the clock beside the bed, and ran his hand over the small amount of stubble that had managed to appear overnight. “I promised Colton I’d help him out today with the cows. I was meant to be there about ten minutes ago.” His hands landed on my shoulders after he sat up, and he pulled me closer to kiss the top of my head. “Don’t think this is you getting off easy.”
I pushed him off the bed playfully and he hurried to gather his clothes and get dressed. I couldn’t help but stare at his firm ass just before it was hidden from view by the jeans he pulled on.
I took my time, though, as I heard his hurried footsteps down the timber stairs. He voiced a quick hello to someone before the front door squeaked open. From the window in his room, I watched as he jogged across the drive to the barn, where I could see Colton sitting astride his horse, with Cisco saddled and waiting close by.
I dressed in some of my new clothes and my flats, eyeing my new boots lovingly. They’d get their time, but even I had to admit that my ankle wasn’t ready for the effort it took to take them off. Ryder had sworn black and blue that they’d get easier when they were worn in, but for now, they were off-limits.
Making my way downstairs, I heard the youngest Larsen sister singing to herself. She had such a beautiful voice. I lingered around the corner, remaining out of sight and wanting to let her finish the song that I didn’t recognize before walking into the kitchen. She cleared her throat awkwardly the moment she spotted me. A blush began to color her cheeks.
“You have a lovely voice,” I told her. Her cheeks were now a bright shade of red.
“Thanks.” She ducked her head and put away some of the cutlery she’d been drying. “But you don’t need to flatter me, it’s clearly not that great. They don’t think much of my audition tapes on those reality shows.”
I was shocked to hear that someone from such a small town would have such big dreams. But then again, I didn’t know why it should. With a voice like hers, she could be the next big star. “Then they’re clearly in the wrong business, girl. Your pipes are amazing!”
She didn’t look at me, instead choosing to change the topic. “Still up for helping me with the vegetable patch?” I nodded and grabbed a banana, eating it while she finished with the dishes. Finally, when she was done, she looked me in the eye.
“Digging or weeding?”
I thought about it for a moment. I couldn’t imagine either would be particularly fun. “Weeding,” I decided. “The digging probably wouldn’t be any good for my ankle.” She nodded in agreement before we headed out into the bright morning sunshine.
“You know,” Kenzie started as she handed me a pair of floral-printed gardening gloves, “you’re good for Ry. He’s been smiling more since you’ve been here. I haven’t seen him smile like that since—” She cut herself off before she continued. “Well, he hasn’t smiled this much in a few years. He’s been laughing more too, not the fake kind either. They’ve been real belly laughs lately.”
“You think?” Then I admitted, “I think he’s good for me too.”
She picked up her spade and dug at a dead plant. “He isn’t as stern either, not as moody as he was before you came along. It used to drive me mad, never knowing which version of him I was going to run into. He was either quiet and broody or ready to rip my head off. There was hardly a peaceful moment in between.”
She dumped the plant off to the side, leaning on the handle for a few moments as the tip of the spade pushed into the dirt. “Honestly, Van and I are a little worried about what’s going to happen when you leave.”
“You are?” I was shocked to hear that the girls had been discussing this, obviously in great detail as the questions from Kenzie kept on coming.
“When are you leaving?”
“You want me to leave?” I sent her a side glance and she shook her head.
“Hell no, girl! I love having you around! I just remember you saying that you were here for a while for work. I’m guessing that means you have a schedule you need to stick to.”
“Truthfully,” I said as I knelt, grasped a weed and tugged at it, hard. Probably harder than I needed to since it came free so easily I rocked back a little. Setting my free hand on the ground to steady myself, I told her, “I don’t really want to go, but work pays the bills. It’s nice to work somewhere a bit different than an office, though.”
“A change is as good as a holiday, right, Sinny? You’re a lawyer, though, doesn’t that mean you can work from anywhere?”
I sat back on my heels, and my ankle barked its protest. “I wish that were the case, but the company I work for is based in Louisiana. There’s no way I’d be able to practice from here if I stayed with them.”
