I don’t dawdle in the shower because even I’m a little excited to see how the rest of the day turns out. Gunner’s mom and surrogate aunt have just made it that little bit sweeter.
I step into my ‘mom’ swimsuit seeing as how there are going to be twelve children at the party and then sweep my hair up off my face. I feel it’s going to be one of those days and hurriedly sponge on my summer foundation and blush. I say hurriedly but I keep getting distracted by Gunner in the shower.
I can’t help but feast my eyes on his exquisite form, the way the droplets of water and soap slide down over his hard, packed muscle, I have to shake myself out of it.
My frilly canary yellow romper goes on next and then my gold slide sandals I slip on finish off the outfit. Gunner emerges in just a towel and yet again I’m planted to the floor, my gaze sweeping over his golden torso and the beautiful tattoo that covers the left side of his chest.
“You bite that lip any harder you’ll break skin.” He’s a cocky one, that’s for sure.
He takes a few steps towards me and bends to meet my lip with his.
“Urgh, bleh. Why?” he whines.
“Because it’s pretty and we’re hosting like, a trillion guests.”
He stares at my mouth. “It makes them look so fuckable though, all plump and
glossy.” He pulls on my hand and snakes it under the towel so I can feel him
hardening.
“What do you think they’d feel like sliding over my dick?”
“I’m not sure, let’s find out later.” I give him a squeeze. “I’ll make sure I re-apply right before bed, and we’ll need to gag you now that your mom and June are here.”
“Yes,” he whisper-groans and drops my hand not a moment too soon.
“Now Mom, don’t forget Summer will be coming. Make sure she gets the first cupcake it’s important to me.” Jack saunters in, still in his pajamas and crazy bed hair.
“Jack! Did I not tell you to get ready straight after speaking with Gramma?”
“Yes, but then I just quickly called Theo and Scott and Casey,” he says.
“You—” I take the phone from him and, yep, he went through the Maddens like a Rolodex. Gunner tightens his towel round his hips and then smiles down at Jack,
“Come on little Dude let's go get you sorted.” Gunner tells him and then turns to me. “Why don’t you go take five minutes Coralie? Go have your fifth cup of coffee.”
“I might just do that,” I say as I exit the room. I don’t though, I go check on Kate.
“Come in,” she says when I knock.
“Hi honey, are you okay?” She’s sitting at the dresser, scrunching her face up at her reflection, hands intertwined in her chestnut hair.
“Yeah, I’m just… trying to do this hair crown but I haven’t quite mastered it yet,” she says almost dislocating her fingers.
“Here, let me.”
“Are you sure?” Her eyes flit to mine. “You’ve got lots of things to do and Gunner’s mom and her friend—”
“The boys are still getting ready, and Alison and June are freshening up. Allow me.” I take her beautiful thick hair and start to braid.
“You feeling okay about today? If you want to ask your friends over that wouldn’t be a problem,” I reassure her.
“No that’s okay. Hadley has his own thing going on and the others are at work. Plus, it’s Jack’s special day and I’m totally excited to be here for that.”
I smile, knowing another person has fallen under Jack’s spell.
“Well how about the day after tomorrow? You could ask Case to use the pool, or you could hang out here.”
