“Lucas,” I whisper, tears pricking at the corners of my eyes. “I can’t wait to be your wife.”
“Good,” he replies, brushing a stray tear from my cheek. “Because I mean every word. And when we return from Dubai, we’ll start our incredible life together.” He puts his hand on my belly. “As a family.”
“Sounds perfect,” I agree, beaming up at him.
“Speaking of,” Lucas says, his eyes twinkling with mischief, “have you given any thought to where you want to live after we’re married? I suppose that’s the next thing to think about when we get back.”
“Um, not really,” I admit, a little taken aback by the question. “I guess I just assumed we’d live in your place.” I hesitate for a moment. “Or mine,” I mumble, suddenly feeling insecure about my tiny apartment compared to his luxurious penthouse.
“Both are great options,” he reassures me, squeezing my hand gently. “But I was thinking that maybe we could go house hunting when we get back from Dubai. Find a place that’s truly ours, you know? Anywhere you want.”
“Wow.” My eyes widen at the suggestion, excitement bubbling inside me. “That sounds amazing!” I didn’t think my excitement could go any higher, but the thought of returning from this trip to an adventure of finding a house is beyond thrilling.
“Great!” Lucas grins, clearly pleased with my reaction. “We’ll make a plan as soon as we’re home.”
“Did someone say ‘home’?” Chloe suddenly pops up beside us, her eyes gleaming with curiosity. “Are you two talking about where you’re going to live after the wedding?”
“Uh, yeah,” I confirm, shooting Lucas an amused glance. “We were just discussing the idea of finding a new place together.”
“Ooh! You should totally move onto my street!” she exclaims, clapping her hands in delight. “There’s this gorgeous house for sale just a few doors down from me, and it would be so fun to be neighbors!”
“Neighbors?” I chuckle at her enthusiasm. Turning to Lucas, I raise an eyebrow, silently asking for his opinion on the matter.
“Sounds like it could be fun,” he concedes, beaming at Chloe. “We’ll definitely look into it.”
“Yay!” Chloe squeals, bouncing on her toes with excitement. “Just imagine all the impromptu barbecues and game nights we could have!”
“Chloe, your excitement is contagious,” I laugh, feeling my enthusiasm grow at the thought of living so close to my best friend.
“See? It’s meant to be!” she declares, nodding her head with conviction. “I can’t wait to help you guys move in and decorate your new love nest.”
As we join the rest of our team, preparing to board our flight to Dubai, I feel a sense of exhilaration. Everything is falling into place and a true feeling of joy fills me.
With Chloe’s excitement still fresh in the air, Lucas gently takes my hand and leads me a few steps away from the group. His eyes hold a hint of amusement as he leans down to whisper in my ear, “As much as I adore Chloe and her boundless energy, I’m not sure living on the same street is the best idea for us.”
“Oh, thank God,” I say with a huge exhale. “And here I thought you were thrilled at the prospect of impromptu barbecues and game nights.”
“Thrilled might be an overstatement,” he replies, his lips curling into a smirk. “I do love Chloe, but a little distance might keep our sanity intact.”
“I couldn’t agree more,” I concede, chuckling softly. As much as I love Chloe, Lucas and I need space to build our own lives. But I’ll be sure her feelings don’t get hurt in the process.
“Attention passengers, this is the final boarding call for flight EK222 to Dubai, departing from gate B7,” the airport PA system announces, jolting us back to the present moment.
“Looks like it’s time to go,” I say, squeezing Lucas’s hand. He nods, his eyes filled with excitement as we make our way back to our team.
“Alright, everyone, let’s get moving! Dubai awaits!” Lucas calls out, his authoritative tone effortlessly commanding their attention.
“Did someone say Dubai?” Xavier chimes in with a grin.
“Everyone, circle up!” Lucas announces as we stand near our gate. The Walker Enterprises team forms a tight cluster, arms around each other’s shoulders, their excitement bubbling over.
“Alright, guys, this is it,” Lucas says, his eyes sparkling with determination. “We’ve trained hard for this tournament, and I know we’re going to crush it!”
“Damn right, we are!” Xavier exclaims along with the others.
“Okay, guys,” Lucas says, drawing our attention back to him. “One last time before we board—let’s hear our fight chant!”
Xavier stands tall, preparing to lead the chant.
