"Yes, my queen." Amelia tilted her head backward as she giggled.
She wasn't expecting me to call her my queen. I'd done the goofiest thing when she came to my house. I would do anything, say anything, to see those beautiful smiles on Amelia's lips.
Amelia went back to work while I sat behind the wheels of my Range Rover SUV. I could only think of how to make the coming evening special for Amelia. I made a few calls and had my workers set up an in-house cinema in my backyard. My plans to make the evening special made me do too much.
I bought a few things I wouldn't likely use after today. I paid for everything and supervised the rest. Mother called a few times to ask for my input on the wedding ceremony. I refrained from telling her. I didn't care about the decorations' colors; I only want to make Amelia my wife.
"Whatever you want, Mom," I dismissed her, giving her the power she always craved.
I paced my house until evening. I began to entertain a few doubts at a few minutes to seven in the evening. I began to doubt if Amelia would appreciate a gesture such as this. However, it was too late to stop the workers… too late to return everything I had bought, and too late to think of something even more impressive.
"Fuck! I suck at this."
Until now, I had never seen the need to go out of my way for a woman. Now that I did, I was doing too much. The workers finished the setup just in time. The wind from the nearby beach blew steadily against the wide white screen we had tied up. The projector displayed a plain blue screen. The outdoor sofa was placed adjacent to the projector, and as the sun retracted, the screen got darker.
Amelia walked behind me as she held me from behind. “This is beautiful, Henry.”
I couldn’t imagine she'd see an outdoor cinema this way. I planned to blindfold her while she walked to the porch, and I'd feel satisfied by the surprised look on her face. However, as the evening went on, I was satisfied by just having Amelia with me.
“How did you get into the house?” I turned her to face me.
“Your maid opened the door for me.” Amelia's lips had become dry from stress. Her eyes looked tired.
I took her bag, trying to relieve her from the stress that was wearing her out. She held my hand as I led her to the soft outdoor sofa. I watched her shoulders relax as she beamed a smile. She deserved this; in fact, she deserved everything. I punched the remote as the movie started to play on the screen.
Amelia rested her head on my shoulder while the screen showed the intro. “I know this movie,” Amelia said as she raised her head from my shoulder. “This is my favorite!”
I knew that American Beauty was her favorite movie; her sister had told me a few months ago. She'd watched the movie a million times.
“I know,” I bragged. “I did my homework.”
My hired chef interrupted to bring us a huge bag of popcorn and sodas. Amelia sat comfortably as she focused on the movie before us. A few minutes into the movie, Amelia snuggled near me. I held her, stroking her hair as she laughed at the funny scene on the screen. It hit me that the peace that came with Amelia's presence was one of the things that made her special.
A few hours into the movie, she turned to me. “Thank you,” she whispered with a smile.
“Shhh,” I said, “you will miss the best part.”
The young night moved into a dark, full-moon phase. The chef set our dinner before us, and we ate quietly under the magical summer night. The projector went off when the movie finished. I motioned to leave, but I felt Amelia's solid grasp.
She bit her lip. "How about we do it tonight."
“Don’t you think we should go inside first?”
Amelia held my arm firmly. “Let's do it here.”
I raised my brows in surprise. “Under the sky?”
“Yes.” Amelia’s wild thought was getting the best of her.
"Give me a minute." I returned to the house to dismiss my domestic workers from duty.
I returned to Amelia and asked her again, “Are you sure you want to do it here?”
“I’m certain.”
Amelia was coming out of her shell. She unlocked her wildness with me, and I couldn’t say no.
