“I have a source in Arjun Monani’s office. I’ve been keeping an eye on him because nothing would give me more pleasure than to swoop in and buy out his company. Get this, his business is running heavy losses. They were very close to filing for bankruptcy until they got a shot of hard cash out of nowhere.”

He nodded towards the man still standing where Tia had left him.

“Jeff Sabri - angel investor with mob ties. He’s injected a lot of money into Monani’s dying business and he’s getting repaid in kind.”

“You don’t mean…”

“Tia Monani. He wants her, and from the looks of it, he’s getting her tonight.”

There was a dull roaring inside my head and it felt as if Marcus’s words were coming from a distance.

“Lock it down, Leo,” said Luke, squeezing my shoulder. “This is not the time to lose it.”

I shrugged his hand off.

“I’m not losing anything. I don’t care if Tia is part of her brother’s business deal,” I said coldly.

“She doesn’t like it when he touches her,” said Luke.

“What?”

“She flinched when he touched her. I saw it in her face. Tia’s not going into this willingly. Her brother is forcing her to prostitute herself for his company. We have to stop this,” he insisted.

“It has nothing to do with us,” I argued, ignoring the way my gut clenched at the thought of anyone taking Tia against her will. She had brought this on herself. And yet, my eyes traveled all over the room, looking for her.

“Leo, we will help you rescue Tia,” promised Marcus.

“What makes you think I plan to rescue her at all?”

“Because we know you. And we can see from the way your body is coiled tight that you’re not going to stand by and watch her being sold into sexual slavery,” he said harshly.

He wasn’t wrong.

“Where is she?”

She had left the room, presumably to powder her nose. Why wasn’t she back yet?

“Her brother’s going out to look for her now,” warned Luke.

Arjun Monani was heading to the door. We needed to get to Tia before he got to her.

“You guys head him off while I find her.”

Things moved fast after that.

Marcus grabbed a cocktail off a tray and intercepted Arjun before he could get to the door. As he passed him, he spilled his bright pink drink down the front of the man’s trashy white suit.

“Oops! Let me help you clean that up,” he said, dabbing at the huge pink patch and making it bigger.

“I want nothing from you, Donovan,” snarled Arjun, shoving Marcus’s hands aside. “Get away from me.”

“Hey, asshole, my brother’s only trying to help. God knows you don’t even deserve that much from us after what you did to my family,” snapped Luke, shoving him in the shoulder.

“You want a fight, pretty boy? I’ll give you a fight,” replied Arjun.

“Not in here, you idiot. Unless you want to find yourself on the news. Let’s take this to a more private location,” said Marcus, as he and Luke hustled Arjun towards the side entrance.

Meanwhile, I headed for the restrooms to look for Tia. It meant nothing, I told myself. I would help out any woman beingpimped out by her own family. I ignored the fact that I wouldn’t feel as murderous about the situation if it was any other woman. Or that I wouldn’t feel like destroying any man who so much as looked at her.
