“About moving in with you.”

She looked suddenly vulnerable, and he tightened his arms around her. She’d come a long way in getting past the worst of her insecurities, but something was obviously making her doubt herself again.

“Yes,” he said. “Of course I want you to move in with me. I want to wake up with you every morning, fall asleep beside you every night. Hopefully, the worst of the travelling is done, for a while at least.”

“I’m okay with you going away, as long as I know you’re coming back.”

“I’ll always come back.” He reached for her lips, to claim another kiss. “So what do you say, my love? I know you don’t want to leave Sunfish, but West Chapel’s only ten minutes away…”

She giggled, the sound pure joy and her eyes alight with it. “Yes. Yes, I’d love to live with you.”

And one day soon, Adam thought, he’d pull out the ring he’d found in a gorgeous boutique jewellery store in Aspen and ask Rosie to take the next step with him. Because he was very sure living with her wasn’t going to be enough. He wanted Rosie to be his wife, and when the time was right, he’d propose and hope she said yes.

A year ago, with his career over, he’d been lost and directionless, but Sunfish Island had not only given him a whole new career and purpose, it had brought him to Rosie, and that was the greater gift. Hugging her close, he pressed his face into the softness of her hair, breathing in her sweet scent with a sigh of pure contentment as he drifted off to sleep.
