My heart stutters in my chest as I take in her words. Before I can stop myself, my palm strikes her across her face.
“How dare you!” I hiss, seething. “My life is not yours to play with. How dare you try to take away my free will.”
She glowers at me as she rubs at her red cheek. “Wilbur needs this merger; without it, it could ruin him. I haven’t spent my time bouncing on his flaccid cock to lose everything because of some sullen teenager who couldn’t be grateful and do what her family needed her to.”
I jolt backwards at the viciousness of her words. “Wow!” I exclaim. “Good to know your feelings for my grandfather are genuine. I would hate for him to be tied with a soulless money grabbing whore.”
“We all do what we can to survive,” she snipes. “You’re no different. You’ll do what’s asked of you for your brother, and I’ll do what I can to give my son and I the life we deserve.” She looks at me and a look of realisation crosses her face. “You haven’t been drinking all night. You’re pregnant, aren’t you?”
“Keep your mouth shut,” I warn, stepping into her space and looking behind me to check no one is in earshot.
“And why would I do that?”
“You’ll do it because if you want me, the heiress, to ensure you’re looked after when old Wilbur pops his clogs, then you’ll keep that zipped.”
“What’s going on?” Archer’s hand cups my hip from behind. “Is there a problem?”
Alexis smiles at him and shakes her head. “No problem at all. I was just admiring that beautiful ring.” She gives me one last look before she walks past us and out of the room.
“Everything okay, Scar?” he asks me as he spins me to face him.
“Fine,” I tell him, plastering on a smile of reassurance. “Come on, let’s go through.”
Inside, I’m shaking with anger. How dare she swap out my birth control and manipulate me like this! Now everything makes perfect sense. I knew damn well I’d taken my pill religiously. She had used me to ensure she gets what she wants. Every fucker here is trying to use me for their own end, and I’m tired of being their puppet.

We arrive homea couple of hours later and I’m still bubbling with rage inside. Edward excuses himself straight off to bed and Archer move towards the stairs to our room.
“Hey, I think I’m going to make a hot chocolate. I’ll be up soon,” I tell him.
“I’ll make it for you,” he offers, stepping down off the first step to the first floor.
I place my hand on his chest. “Honestly, I’ll do it. You go up. I won’t be long.” I need some alone time to stew over what Alexis has done.
He studies me for a beat before he nods his head. He drops a kiss on my head and carries on up to bed. I head into the kitchen and turn on the light. Grabbing a cup, I put it under the coffee machine and pop in a hot chocolate pod.
“Argh,”
I jump when I hear someone call out in pain. It sounds like the noise is coming from outside. I open the glass doors that lead on to the patio and I hear a grunt to my left and head in that direction. I falter in my steps and cover my mouth with my hand at what I see. The moonlight exposes them against the darkness. There, against one of the old oak trees, is Georgie’s mum with her naked legs wrapped around Phil as he pounds into her. The noise I heard wasn’t a cry of pain, but a cry of pleasure. My eyes can never unsee this. I take a tentative step back, praying to God they don’t hear me, because yeah, that would be a level of embarrassment I don’t want to even think about. I reach the patio doors and step back inside, closing them quietly.
“There you are,”
“Fuckballs!” I jump a mile at the sound of Archer’s voice. “You scared me. Come on, let’s go up to bed.”
“Argh,” Georgie’s mum screams and I flinch, knowing that Archer had to have heard that. He moves to go past me and open the door and I reach out my hand, placing it on his. “Don’t. Trust me, if you don’t want to be scarred for life. Don’t go out there.”
Archer frowns at me. “Whose out there?”
I sigh, running a hand through my hair. Fuck. Why did it have to be me who found them? “Your dad’s out there. With Georgie’s mum and trust me when I say you don’t want to see what they’re doing.”
Archer Scoffs. “He’s been fucking her for years, Scar. I was more worried that it could have been your stalker out there.”
I blink, shaking my head. “Wait a minute, you know they are having an affair?”
He shrugs his shoulders nonchalantly. “I wouldn’t call it an affair, more like fuck buddies. Dad’s been pounding her for years, Scar. First time I saw them together, I was eleven. I heard noises coming from my father’s office. I sneaked outside and looked through his window, only to see her bent over his desk and them going at it.”
“It doesn’t bother you?”
