“No,” Vee says firmly from where she sits opposite me. “Trust me when I tell you, Silver is well and truly in the friend zone.”
“He wants her, though.”
Seb snorts, and I glare at him. He shrugs his shoulders. “Of course he wants her. Look at her. Your fiancée is fucking hot.”
Vee elbows him in his side and scowls at him. “Not helping dickhead.” Vee turns her attention back to me. “Silver knows she doesn’t see him that way. Anyway, enough of him. What are you going to do to get her back with us where she belongs?”
“Who said he wants her back?” Rafe sniggers, looking across at his future wife.
She shakes her head in exasperation at him. “He wants her back. Look at him!” She gestures with her hand to me. “He’s sitting there staring at the door, willing her to walk in here. He needs her like he needs air to breathe.”
“Don’t talk bullshit, Vee,” Rafe says dismissively.
“She’s right,” I say, still staring at the door. “Fuck,” I exclaim. I don’t know how, but Scarlet has me in knots. I fucking miss her. I miss her smell. I miss her snarkiness and her body, and I miss waking up with her in my bed.
“You mean to say…”
“Yep, my docile twin. Archer has caught the feels for the lovely Eliza,” Vee says delightedly, grinning at her brother. She arches a brow and looks at me, daring me to tell her she’s wrong.
“How do I win her back?” I ask her. I don’t miss the open-mouthed stares of both my brothers as they realise that I’m serious.
Vee beams at me. “Now we’re talking.” She leans forward, placing her hands on the table like she means business. “You woo her.”
“Come again,” I say with a frown.
“You woo her. You be everywhere. Pull her chair out for her in class, you open doors for her. You offer to carry her bag even if she tells you to go to hell. Send her flowers. You take every chance you can get to be in her space.”
Seb scrunches his forehead up and shakes his head. “I don’t know, sis. I think little red will probably punch him in the dick if he’s up in her space all the time.”
“Am I not her best friend?” she asks us all.
“No. Not anymore,” Seb says matter-of-factly. “She hates you just as much as she hates the rest of us.”
Vee scowls at her brother. “Thank you for reminding me, Seb. What I mean is that I know her. Underneath all that hard demeanour and sass, she’s just a girl who wants to feel cherished and protected.”
“Look out for her brother. That will win you brownie points,” Rafe suggests, as he tucks into his sandwich.
“If you really want to win her back. I know how you could do it.”
We all look up at the unwelcome intruder. “Did we ask for your opinion, Chester?” I glower at him. I don’t like this fucker. He’s like an unpleasant smell that lingers.
Chester grins, taking a seat at our table.
“What the fuck?” Seb hisses, clenching his fist. “Remove yourself from this table before I do it for you.”
Chester ignores Seb completely, leaning back in his seat, studying me.
“What do you know?” I ask him, and a smirk covers his mouth.
“I knew you were the astute one of the trio. I know more than you think. I was with your girl when she found that file in Wilbur’s office and I know what she was in there looking for.” He stops and waits.
“What’s your price?” I ask him. Cutting straight to the point. This fucker does nothing to help anyone if it doesn’t serve himself.
“I knew you’d understand,” he says with a smug smile. “I want in. I want to be an Ace.”
I smirk. Who does he think he is?
“No.”
