“Five grand,” Seb whistles, as Ron places the winning bid, outbidding his competitors by a whole two thousand pounds.
Hook, line and sinker, our target has fallen for the allure of my queen.
Now comes the tricky part.
Scar has to secure that USB stick without him noticing.
Eliza is escorted to one of the private rooms where dirty old Ron is waiting for her. He’s practically drooling when she walks in. His greedy eyes drink her in from head to toe and I clench my fists in anger. How dare he look at her like that! She is mine, not his.
He asks her how old she is, and Scar lies and says she’s eighteen. Like he cares how old she is. This dirty old man likes them young. The music comes on and Scar dances, perfecting the routine she practiced with Kayla. She’s sinfully good and dear old Ron looks like he may have a heart attack any second. I can see the bulge in his pants, and it makes me want to vomit that she’s doing this on the orders of the Elders. Once she is my fiancée, if they think they can put her on jobs like this, they can think again. Scar is our queen, and a queen shouldn’t have to do shit like this to prove her loyalty. As she sits on his lap, we get an up-close and personal view of Ron’s sweaty face and body. With any luck, he will have a heart attack and die and then this can end now, and I can get my girl out of that club.
“Bingo!” Seb says, clapping his hands together. “She did it.”
I’ve been so busy watching Scar; I haven’t been thinking about the whole reasons she is going through this. “You sure?”
Seb nods, grinning. “Didn’t you see her pop it in the tiny pocket in the back of her shorts?”
“I’m distracted,” I say gruffly.
“Our girl did good,” Seb states and I wither my gaze at him.
“Our girl?”
Seb shrugs his shoulders, grinning. “What? We’re a family, aren’t we, the five of us?”
He’s right, we are a family. I will always put the four of them before everyone else. Blood isn’t always thicker than water. These were my brothers, and Vee and Scar were our girls. I’d die for both of them without question. That is what we do. We protect each other, no matter what.
I watch as Scar goes to exit the room, but sleazy Ron grabs her hand and stops her from leaving. He looks up at the camera they have in the corner of each room. The one that ensures no one breeches the clubs ‘no touch’ policy. The fucker offers her ten grand if she’ll meet him at a hotel later tonight. Scar handles it well. She tells him she is flattered, but that she has her sick mother to get back to. Ron, gets desperate, and tells her he’ll make sure she’d never have to work again and put her up in a fancy apartment if she’ll agree to be his mistress. Ron’s desperate for her. Scar thanks him for his offer but tells him she can’t, and she pulls her hand from his and leaves the room. The body camera clocks Vee at the bar, who looks Scar’s way and nods her head. Not long now, until both our girls will be back with us, where they belong. By the time poor Ron realises his precious USB is missing, we’ll be long gone and there’ll be no trace of a girl named Lara.
Never again will she do another job like this. The Elders think they have all the control, but me and my brothers have been secretly gaining the upper hand for the last three years. We were almost there. Almost.
ELIZA
Ithrow myself down on the back seat and let out the sigh I have been holding in. Archer starts the engine, and we head off into the night, back to the penthouse.
“You did really good, Little Red. It will impress the Elders,” Seb says, nudging my shoulder from where he sits beside me in the car.
“Too good,” Archer growls from the front. He catches my eye from his rear-view mirror, and I can see the worry there. “Now they’ll just want her involved for more jobs.”
“Isn’t that what’s kind of expected of me?” I ask him with a bob of my shoulders. Archer, after all, was the one who initiated me into this stupid society.
“It is, but maybe I just want to protect you from the shit they have forced us to deal with most of our lives, Scar.”
“You should have thought about that before you went along with your Elders’ orders and had me take the challenges. I assume no one leaves unless you’re thrown out or you die.”
Rafe scoffs from where he sits in the front passenger seat. “You got that right.”
“Do we really have to head back to the penthouse?” Vee pouts, “I’m kind of in the mood to dance and party a little.”
“I second that,” Seb says, nodding his head in agreement and looking thrilled at the idea of extending our night further.
“Scar’s tired,” Archer tells him. “It’s been a long day for her. I’m happy to drop the three of you off somewhere, though.”
Vee gives me that face, the one that says, please say yes and come party with me. “I’m dressed like a hooker,” I say, pointing down at the skimpy shorts that are peaking out under Archer’s hoodie.
“Ah, I kind of came prepared,” she replies and grinning, she reaches over into the back of the car and pulls out an overnight bag. I watch her pull out a small pale blue strapless dress and she holds it out to me. “Keep the heels on, they’re fine.”
I am tired. Archer is right, but it’s hard to say no to Vee when she’s like this. “One hour,” I say with a sigh. “One hour and then I’m leaving and going to bed.”
