I roll my eyes, but don’t respond.

“I’m pretty sure the answer is yes, because you’re way more chill than I’ve ever seen you.” Johnny’s lips quirk up in a sly smile. “Like a volcano that finally erupted.”

“Why isn’t Daisy the one helping me out here today?” I ask on the tail of a long, exasperated sigh.

“Because she and Jonah are keeping a tail on Banks, but those two are a whole other soap opera. Right now, I want to focus on your drama.”

I quickly avert my eyes and stare back down at the computer.Would it really be so bad to ask Johnny for some advice about Jeb?

“Eli.” Johnny spins my chair around, so I have nothing else to focus on except his glare. “You did fuck him,” His eyes widen “And shit, you fell for the bastard, didn’t you?”

“I-I…”

My security cameras detects movement. I look up and it’s Jeb and Cash waiting for me to allow them access inside. Jeb looks straight into the camera and blows me a kiss.

“Disgusting,” Johnny says, and when Jeb strides through the door, he gives him a murderous look.

Jeb salutes him. “Good to see you too, Johnny. Looks like we missed each other in about equal amounts.”

Before Johnny can respond, Cash walks over and gives him a kiss. “Behave,” he says, and slaps his ass.

“You’re not the boss of me,” Johnny mutters.

“That’s not what you said last night,” Cash shoots back, a smug smile on his face.

Jeb drops into a roller chair and glides across the room to a resting spot next to me. “I miss us working alone,” Jeb says, not caring that Cash and Johnny can both hear him. He leans closer. “It’s not the only thing I miss.”

I look into his blue eyes that are filled with heat. “If these two bastards weren’t around, you’d be riding my cock right now.” He nods at the cot in the back of the room that served as my bed. “You know how many times during our strategy meetings I’d sit back on that cot and fantasize about you?”

Heat travels through me, but it mixes uneasily with all my confused emotions about Jeb. I shoot out of my chair and go stand in front of the room by my assembly of computers and focus on the job ahead of us.

I pull up the schematics of Banks’ compound on the computers to act as a visual aid and then do what I always do when I need to focus. I put on my glasses.

Jeb lets out a sexy groan. He once told me they turned him on, and I remember the last time he found me wearing them and all the things he did to me afterward.

I quickly take them off and place them in the pocket of my hoodie.

I take a long sip of my pop. “First, let’s revisit everyone’s tasks and roles for the next two hours.”

“We know our jobs,” Johnny bitches.

“Eli is just being thorough.” Jeb jumps in to defend me, his tone of voice angrier than Johnny deserves, especially in response to his normal grumpiness for anything detail-oriented. “We don’t need you accidentally blowing up another semi-truck of explosives,” Jeb says referring to an incident where Johnny thought he was blowing up a truck carrying a drug shipment, but it turned out the truck was carrying an arsenal of weapons and explosives.

Johnny kicks off from where he’d been leaning on the wall next to Cash and takes a few steps toward Jeb and me. “Look, lover-boy, you don’t need to defend Eli from me. We’ve been friends for years, and I’ll keep having his back long after you’ve gone off trying to be some modern-day version of Billy the Kid and Eli looks back at you as his first big mistake.”

Jeb slowly rises from his chair.

I hit the buzzer.

“That wasn’t twelve minutes,” Cash says evenly from his spot against the wall.

“We’re doing a speed, round,” I huff. “Sit down, Jeb.” I point to Johnny. “Go back and stand next to your boyfriend.”

Cash reaches out and pulls Johnny to him so he’s standing in the circle of his arms. Jeb sinks back into his chair. Johnny flips Jeb off, and Jeb silently mouths ‘later’ to him.

It’s as close to a truce I’m going to get, so I get back to business.

“This morning I arranged for false evidence in the form of leaked emails to convince Patriots Now that one of their own members is the one responsible for the bank jobs and speeches Jeb has been pulling. This should ensure Banks’ presence is required at the Patriots Now offices to root out the rogue vigilante among them.”
