“If you want to date Mr. Frost, I don’t care.”Sure you don’t.“He’s too selfish for me.” Eira tosses her hair over her shoulder and walks away.

I stand there watching her, enjoying the moment of peacefulness. Eira is almost out of sight when a low voice interrupts my moment of solitude.

“Well, that was a touching and awkward moment.”

I side-eye Jax as he emerges from the bushes from which he was lurking. “Your stalking is starting to annoy me.”

“Stalking? No, it’s fate that keeps bringing us together.” Jax’s voice is smooth as he moves toward me.

As charming and handsome as he may be, I haven’t forgotten his motives. “I suppose it’s fate that has you trying to seduce my stepdaughter to take everything from me.”

“Eira reached out to me. She’s ready to leave Mistletoe Creek for good, cash in on her inheritance, and crush you as a bonus.” He shrugs and holds out his hands like he’s an innocent bystander in all this.

“Listen.” This time, I invadehisspace. I keep pushing into him until he’s pressed against the wall of shrubs. “I have zero trust in you. But I don’t have to trust you to fuck you.”

A playful, smug smirk teases at the corner of his mouth. “Stop teasing me.”

“I don’t tease. I don’t flirt. I’ll either fuck you or I won’t.”

“Do you beg?” He asks the question as if he’s fascinated by the idea.

“Never,” I tell him bluntly, but it’s a lie. I might for him.

He leans in, his minty breath whispering against my cheek. “I bet I could have you begging.”

“It’s cute that you think that, since you’ve been begging to fuck me since you arrived.”

Something needs to happen soon. All my false bravado can only hold up for so long. I’m afraid I’m actually falling for him, which would be a horrible, horrible mistake. He can’t be trusted. The whole reason he’s here is to take my home and orchard. He was brought here by the person who hates me more than anyone. Or used to hate me more than anyone. I’d like to think that Eira and I just shared a moment that will change our relationship for the good.

“I have been begging to fuck that sweet pussy. And you’re also right that we don’t have to trust each other.” He grabs my hips and pulls me firmly against the hard bulge between his legs. “But you can have faith in the fact that I’ll not stop until you’re thoroughly fucked, sated, and in a state of euphoric ecstasy.”

I look down at his filthy mouth. “Those are big promises.”

“When I make a deal, I don’t back down. I always come through.”

Taking a step back, I smile at him. “A deal. I like that.”

A temporary truce might help us scratch this itch so we can focus.

Jax approaches me again, his voice husky as he speaks. “I’d make a deal with the Devil to get between your legs tonight.”

“Not the Devil, but close. Come to my house in an hour.”

“An hour?” When I only arch a brow and smile, he says, “You are the Devil making me suffer.”

“You’re suffering has only begun.” I wink at him before walking away. I could have him now, but where’s the fun in that? He tried to take my orchard, the asshole, so I’ll let him have a little case of blue balls.

ChapterEight

Frost

I’m standing in the center of a giant bedroom when Hilda finally appears. Her butler showed me the way, and it’s awkward having a stranger lead you to someone’s bedroom. We didn’t speak because I was too ashamed to even meet his eyes. He probably thinks I’m a hooker. Or a plaything. Either way, he knew I was coming here for sex with his boss.

Have there been other men before me?The thought has me jealous and annoyed.

A sexy smile teases at the corner of her mouth. “You appear uncomfortable, Mr. Frost. Flustered even.”

“How many others have there been? Am I in a line of many you have escorted to your room?”
