“It feels so good to be bad.” I grabbed my handbag and the dress and headed toward the register so I could pay for the dress. It was $69, which I knew was expensive for a dress, especially because I didn’t have a job or much money in the bank. But I had a credit card for emergencies, and this sure felt like an emergency. I didn’t know if my parents would agree with me, but I wasn’t about to call them and ask their opinion, either. I wasn’t crazy. I smiled as the retail assistant gave me a ten percent discount for my next purchase, swiped the American Express card my dad had given me to use if my car ever broke down, and took the plastic bag with my new dress gratefully.

“Shall we go and get ready?” I beamed at my friends as we left the store. “I think we should all take a vow that tonight is going to be a good night.”

“I’m in.” Lily looked at her phone and pressed a button. “I’m silencing all my notifications. Sorry, Creepy, no phone sex tonight.”

“Phone sex?” Natasha looked at her in surprise, and Lily just shrugged.

“I mean, sometimes video sex, too.” She laughed. “It’s not real sex, but I use a dildo, and he uses his hand, and it works.”

“Oh,” Natasha looked shocked, and I burst out laughing.

“She’s making sure she gets her stress out.”

“I mean, it’s better than me banging random men every week.” Lily grinned. “And sure, it’s not as good as the real thing, but Creepy said he’s sending me some vibrator he saw online and—”

“He’s sending you a vibrator?” It was my turn to be a little shocked. This relationship seemed to be going full steam ahead, and I wasn’t sure if Lily really knew what she was doing. “Aren’t they expensive?”

“He wanted to spoil me.” Lily shrugged. “And shit, I can do with some spoiling. I told him if we weren’t going into senior year in the fall, I’d consider transferring to a college in LA.”

“You what?” My jaw dropped. “You would move to LA?”

“Most probably not.” She laughed. “But he seemed happy when I said it.”

“Okay.” I stared at Natasha and Lily. “Tonight we all focus on flirting with new guys. If only to get some practice.” I laughed. “And hands off Travis. He’s mine.”

“You better tell Molly that what she gets to the party.” Lily mades a face as I groaned. “She heard me talking about the party and kinda invited herself.”

“Oh man.” I let out a deep sigh. It wasn’t that I disliked being around Molly, but she was just so annoying. “Please tell me Delilah is not coming as well.”

“She’s not,” Lily said quickly.

“Only because she has a date with a guy that has a hot tub in his apartment complex.” Natasha giggled. “Because yes, Lily did invite her as well.”

“Lily!” I exclaimed loudly. “You’re too nice.”

“I know.” She wrinkled her nose. “I’m working on it.” She linked arms with me and Natasha and changed the subject. “Anywho, I’ll let Molly know that Travis is your man and to leave him alone. It’ll be fine. We are going to have the night of our lives.”

“Yes, we are,” I said, feeling excited. Lily’s positivity was infectious, and I couldn’t wait to see how the night was going to unfold. It wasn’t like I wanted to sleep with Travis. All I wanted was a little fun. This was my last summer as a college student. My last summer of freedom until I had to join the real world and figure out my life. I wanted to make the most of it. I wanted to have a reckless and amazing summer. And half of it was already done. I needed to ensure that the last half was something I could write in my memoir. And this chapter was going to be all about how I seduced the delectable Travis Chandler, even though both of my sisters had warned me to stay away from him.

“Oh, I just love the law.” Molly giggled loudly as she tossed her blond hair over her shoulder. Her hand was on Travis’s forearm, and if she pushed her breasts out any more, they would fall off of her chest. I stood there with my glass of spiked lemonade, seething as Molly attempted to flirt up a storm with the man that was supposed to be mine. “Tell me how you decided that you wanted to fight crime?” She giggled again, and I turned to look at Lily with a frown.

“I’m in real estate law,” Travis said smoothly, and I stifled a giggle. Molly was just making herself look like an idiot.

“Oh really?” Molly’s voice carried across the yard, and I could tell something in his sentence had excited her. “Did I tell you that I once auditioned for the role of a realtor in a Keller-Williams commercial?” She stepped back a little bit and then held her head up high. “Mr. and Mrs. Smith, this house is on the market for $400,000, but I know I can negotiate you a better deal than that.” She stopped dramatically and looked around, as if waiting for applause. “That was the line.” She beamed at him. “I didn’t get the role because they said I looked too young to be believable as a top agent, but I—”

“Excuse me, Molly,” Travis said, cutting her off. “I do believe my business partner, Max, is calling me over. Please help yourself to another drink.” He extricated himself from her conversation smoothly, and I watched as he headed across the lawn to talk to Max, who had just arrived. I stifled an inward groan. If Max had arrived, that meant Polly was here as well. My heart thudded as I saw Polly, Max, Harriet, and Finn standing there with Travis. I raised my hand in a small wave as I noticed Polly staring at me with a slight frown on her face.

“Lily, let’s go get a burger,” I said as I grabbed her hand and pulled her toward the grill. Andrew, another one of the summer interns at the firm, was manning the grill and drinking a beer. Natasha and Polly had both complained about him being a douche numerous times, but I actually thought he was quite attractive.

“Hello.” He smiled at us as we grabbed plates. “What would you both like to eat?”

“I’ll have a cheeseburger, please?” I looked over my shoulder to make that Polly was headed over to me. “And maybe a hotdog.”

“I would love a hotdog,” Lily said sweetly. I noticed she was playing with her straight black hair and batting her lashes at Andrew. Was Lily interested in Andrew? “I really love wieners,” she added with a flirtatious smile, and my eyes widened. Oh shit, she was interested in Andrew. I wasn’t sure if I should back away and let her get her flirt on or not.

“Do you now?” Andrew seemed to be picking up what she was throwing because I could see he had definitely perked up and was looking her up and down. Lily was pretty in one of thoseI don’t need to tryways. Many people assumed she was a quiet nerd because she was unassuming, but when they got to know her, they soon figured out she was the most brash and adventurous person in the room.
