"Goose relax, I know you love to dance and don’t get me wrong so do I but prom is overrated.” Prom is the worst night in my life. Last year I was a third wheel to Alex and Johnny, I ended up sitting there not dancing once, watching Janelle stick her tongue down Rhett's throat. It was horrible. She throws her hand over her heart in a fake hurt motion.

"Why I’d never! Melanie Renee Alvarez this is your senior year, we go all in together!” I shake my head rolling my eyes at her.

"It's not like he has asked me yet, he’ll probably ask one of Janelle’s friends just to get back at her.”

Am I throwing myself a pity party? Yes I’am. It's the final week before prom and for the past two weeks all I’ve seen are promposals, flowers, balloons and instagram photos with a 'she said yes to be my date to prom.' Even Alex made Johnny ask her to prom, and here I am waiting for the one person that's probably not even going to ask me.

"Oh hush! You never know.” I scoff at her and scroll through my instagram as another photo of a couple with their stupid promposal board. Seriously, kill me.

Two days until prom and I still haven’t been asked out and when I tried to ask out a boy from the baseball team that has had a crush on me I got turned down! Talk about a real confidence booster. I might as well start collecting knitting materials and tuna for me and my twelve cats I’ll have because I’ll be alone forever.

"What's goin on in yur purdy mind.” Alex’s laying on her Texan accent.

"Me? Oh nothing, just thinking of all the cat food and sweaters I’ll have to make for me and my hundred cats. Because at this rate I’ll be alone and those will be my only source of love and of course my kindle”

"Always with the dramatics Mel. Can you look at me?” I turn slightly, bringing one leg tucked under me on the bench and the other dangling.

“I know you think you’ll end up alone but trust me he will ask you to be his date. I promise you. And I always keep my promises!” I look at her and suspect she knows something.

“What do you know? Talk to me Goose.” With a slight smirk she gives me a wink and hauls off just as the bell for lunch rang.

“Well I be damned.” Hiking up my backpack onto my shoulder I head to class. I hope she knows what she just promised me.

“Look, all I’m saying is that Andrew Garfield is a way better Spider-Man than boring as toast Toby Maguire.”

“Are you nuts! Toby is the best! He is the OG no one ever beats the OG.” Alex and I have been going at this debate the whole class period.

“I'd rather watch paint dry than watch Toby as Spider-Man!” I yell over the other kids yelling.

“Do you hear yourself Mav!? You literally sound insane!” her arms flail to the side emphasizing her statement. We are both heated from this debate.

“Fine, let’s ask a non biased person.” We look to the left to find the teacher.

"Mr. Morales who is the better Spider-Man Toby Maguire or Andrew Garfield?” our spanish teacher Mr. Morales shakes his head and chuckles.

"Preguntar en español, Alexandra por favor.” I see Alex get irritated, she knows some words, mainly the bad ones but Spanish is her least favorite. I throw a smirk her way and answer him.

"Maestro Morales, Quien es mejor Spider-Man? Toby Maguire or Andrew Garfield?” Before he can answer the bell rings to let us out for school.

"It's not fair and you know it, he was going to say Toby Maguire but then you asked him in spanish and he obviously changed his answer.” I let out a laugh as we made our way to Rhett's truck. Speaking of Rhett, where the hell has he been all day?

"Hello Mel, are you listening?” Alex waves her hand in my face. I snap out of my trance. I was looking at the huddle of people by Rhett's truck.

“Sorry yes I was but look—What's going on over there?” Alex just shrugs her shoulders as we continue on. It wasn’t until I got closer that I noticed Rhett standing there in his black cowboy hat, his dark navy blue button up, his light blue Levi’s and his boots. Looking like the Rhett that has starred in my fantasies. What is he up to? It was at that moment I saw the bouquet of dandelions and the baseball boys next to him. Don't freak out Mel, I repeat don't freak out.

“Rhett what is all this?” I don’t get an answer instead one by one the boys turn around to show in big letters P R O M ? Written in black on their backs. I look up to see Rhett has moved closer.

“Will you go to Prom with me, boots?” Tears well up in my eyes as I nod yes. Cheers and hollers come from around us and Rhett leans in and gives me a kiss on the cheek making me blush even more. This is the best day of my life.

“Vamos girls I want to see you both and take pictures before y’all leave.” Mamá shouts from below. “Esperate!”

I look at myself in the mirror, I decided to go with a baby blue dress that hit the floor, and crystals that made up the straps with the back cut just low enough so that when Rhett puts his hand on me to dance I will be able to feel the warmth from his hand, and of course my light brown boots. My brunette hair is done up in a high ponytail with curls cascading down. Alex on the other hand went with a short coral dress that hit right above her knee and flared out at the bottom, with big crystals that rim the top of her boobs. She decided to let her hair free with curls and her signature bangs.

"Damn Mav you look hot!” I turn to look at her running my hand down the front of the dress.

"Really? You don’t think it's too little?”

"No I bet you anything when Rhett sees you he will jizz right then and there in his pants.” I give a slight cringe look then laugh hiding the anxiety rising in my chest.
