"Oops, looks like I missed. . . Dare.”

Before anyone can answer me Mason comes over the speaker.

"Our next duo is up for karaoke!” Hollers erupt and I know I should probably take my eyes off Rhett but who am I kidding the man is sex on a stick and I hope he takes the bait.

"Well boys why don’t you come up with a dare while me and Mel shut this place down.” Alex says as she hooks her arm around mine to drag me to the stage just as the intro to Any Man of Mine starts ringing through the speakers.

Chapter eight

“There’s that cat again huh boots”

Rhett

"So, you finally gonna hit that?” Johnny says nudging me as he walks around the pool table. I take a swig of my beer with a slight grimace to that comment while looking towards the stage.

"She’s definitely not the Mel we remember that’s for sure, but I can’t say I’m not, not thinking about it.” Lifting my eyebrow to the thought of her curved body in my arms with her lips all over me again really is making the devil on my shoulder scream louder in my ear. Just do it you pussy.

"No she’s not, she’s not a prude like she was in high school and from what I’ve heard by Alex she’s had more than her fair share of one night stands.” Johnny tells me as he lines up his shot to break. This is news to me. But I can’t say I'm surprised, I mean it’s been five years.

I clench my jaw so tight I can feel my teeth grind and that bile I felt earlier has come back along with vicious anger I have towards her.

She left. Didn’t even say goodbye and when I really needed her she never came let alone called me. That gentleman she once knew doesn’t exist anymore, and by that, I mean I will take her home one way or another and get her under me show her what she’s missed out on. When she thinks everything is great filled with sunshine and dandelions, I’ll set flame to that flower and watch it turn into dust.

"Dude! Rhett” fingers snap to get my attention

"it's your turn, stop daydreaming about Mel for once. Just fuck her and get it over with or go home with Cassie.” I pointed my finger at him.

"Now you know Cassie was a one time thing and quite frankly never should have happened.” I glare at Johnny as I round the table to line up my shot at the blue number two solid ball. I sink it into the side pocket then sit up to scope the table for another. Leaning down to take aim Johnny being Johnny,

"You still never told me what it was like, she seems like one of those crazy ones in the sack.” He holds his pool stick in front of him wiggling his his eyebrows at me.

"You’ve got issues man.” I can’t stand the way Johnny talks about women and the sad thing is Alex knows about it and she’s either just grown comfortable with him letting it slide or she just doesn’t care which, neither is better than the other.

"Damn dude you really do need to get laid. Im not kidding though, you and Mel should just get it over with .You two have so much built up tension that you both need to release it and by the way she’s been eye fucking you. I’d say she’s thinking it too.”

I miss my shot at the number four ball and stand up straight bringing the pool stick in front of me in my right hand and cross my left arm over top to relax it.

"Who says I’m not taking her home?”

Fuck it. I'm done playing these games of beating around the bush. Who is Johnny to judge me? Johnny looks at me with his eyes wide like he was shocked to hear me say those words.

"Oh shit, really?” He asked me.

"Yeah why not, it's been a long time coming, I’m tired of it and it’ll taste sweeter when I give her a feel of what she’s been wanting all along then treat her like she’s a common slut.”

A low whistle leaves his mouth.

"Damn she really did a number on you, what the hell happened anyway? All I heard was you two had a hot moment in your truck and then she was gone.”

Reaching for my beer on the table I look at him dead in the eyes.

"That about sums it up. Lets not forget the no goodbye or checking in or you know calling about my dad.”

Johnny doesn’t say anything. We just both take a drink and listen to the bunch who have made their way to the stage now to sing “Don’t Stop Believing,” The girls have made a beeline for the bar throwing shots back then heading back towards us. Johnny takes a deep breath and through his exhale says,

"Make it hurt.”

As I drain the last of my beer, I lift my chin up and whisper so only Johnny can hear.
