Maybe he wanted to piss him off too.

“Anyway, I don’t want to take up too much of your time, but I meant to ask you something,” He shifted his weight from one foot to the other, looking slightly nervous for the first time I had ever seen.

“Go ahead,” I nodded, my curiosity piqued.

"Prom is coming up, and I was wondering if you want to go with me? I don’t know if Bryan has asked you yet, but if he hasn’t, then I mean, it’s fair game, right?”

I blinked in surprise, completely caught off guard.

“I…” I hesitated, playing with the front of my blouse.

“Come on, Romai. I’ll show you a better time than Bryan ever could,” he winked at me. “And by the way his performance is going, I’m sure that he’s going to get his captaincy taken away from him soon enough. You should be with a real man and the future captain of the hockey team.”

“I’m not sure…” I considered his words.

Sure, it was true that Bryan was the guy I liked. But he didn’t see me as his type. I would forever be invisible in front of him.

Could it be possible to date Karl? The idea seemed tempting, but at the same time, it sounded wrong.

He took my hesitation as a sign that he should convince me harder and moved closer to me, putting his hand on my shoulder.

“Come on, Ro….” he leaned down to whisper in my ear, “Ditch your guy, and come with me.”

Before I could even respond, Karl was yanked off me by force, and an angry Bryan stood in front of us, holding Karl by the collar now.

“Don’t you fucking dare talk to her,” Bryan snarled.

“Hey!” I tried to step in, not wanting him to cause a scene. “He didn’t do anything wrong.”

My reaction only seemed to anger Bryan even more, and he slammed Karl against one of the lockers.

“Your girl has no problem talking to me,” Karl sniggered, struggling to wriggle out of his grasp. Between the two of them, it was clear that Bryan was physically stronger.

“But I do,” Bryan’s words were filled with possessiveness, and he let go of Karl's collar only to grab me by the hand.

He kissed me in front of everyone in the hallway, and when he let go, he looked around at the small crowd that had gathered up.

“If anyone else is curious about chatting up my girl, then let it be known, she is with ME!”

Chapter 20

Bryan

“What was all that about?” A furious Romai confronted me when we were finally outside on the school field.

I kept quiet. Seeing them together like that… I didn’t know what came into me, but all I saw was blind rage and jealousy.

“Are you seriously going to ignore me right now?” she prodded me, demanding an answer. “Since when do you care if other guys talk to me? I thought you didn’t see me as your girlfriend.”

I gritted my teeth. “You’re not allowed to talk to other guys anymore. New rules if you want to keep this arrangement going.”

“That’s a bit controlling?” she raised an eyebrow. “I didn’t think you’d even care.”

But I do. I had no idea why I had become so possessive over Romai all of a sudden, but just the thought of another guy coming in to get her attention made me see red.

I ignored her again and started walking in the other direction. I didn’t have the answers she wanted from me.

Truth be told, I’d never felt this way for a girl before.
