This was the happiest she’d been in days, since the attack on the clubhouse. How much damage could it do to enjoy a few more moments of contentment before telling him everything? And what would it even do? According to that stuff she'd read, she’d be weak, and maybe she’d be even more dangerous if they strengthened her shifter side?

Shit, she didn’t know. What she needed was to dig deeper and she’d do that, definitely.

Kodiak turned his back to her as he pulled on a shirt. And she saw the marks on his back.

Claw marks.

They were healing fast, which was good, but they looked uncomfortable. An unease started to creep into her blood.

“What happened?”

“When?” He turned to her. “Oh, the marks? You should get dressed.”

For a terrible moment her imagination indulged in the idea of him with a she-wolf, but as she looked at him, she knew.

He wouldn’t.

And trust, it went both ways.

She got up from the bed, the sheet gliding across her skin, still salty from the sweat of sex.

He stared at her naked body as she walked up to him and put her hands on his back, near the marks.

He pressed his forehead to hers and sighed. “It was inevitable.”

“What was?”

“A fight with Moki.”

“Did you…” She remembered what had happened to Shota. Even though he’d been a dick, it sickened her that he’d been attacked by his own kind.

“Yes.”

She embraced Kodiak, and his lips found hers in a slow, drawn-out kiss that gently rekindled her desire.

Kodiak broke away. “We need to get back to the clubhouse. We’ve got to plan an attack on the vampires.”

Tamaska exhaled, releasing some of the tension that had started rebuild within her. She was worried for him, more than she thought possible considering that it was only days ago when the idea of Kodiak becoming a wolf scared her senseless.

I need to tell him everything I found, all my theories. I have to make him listen.

But how? Especially when he had so much to deal with and what he learned might not get them anywhere except wasting time.

A knock on the door sent her scurrying for yesterday’s borrowed clothes, and she quickly put them on.

“We’re going soon, get ready,” Kodiak called.

“I just need my computer,” Ash said from the other side of the door.

Tamaska’s hands shook as she picked up the laptop from the floor, where it had fallen during their lovemaking.

Kodiak took it from her, eyeing her, and then passed it through the crack in the door. Tamaska retreated a few steps, so Ash wouldn’t see her face..

The other two talks and she busied herself, dressing, and then she made the bed. The smell of their sex lay heavy in the air, delighting her senses and fueling her afterglow.

Kodiak closed the door and turned back to her. His shoulders slumped forward slightly, and a sorrowful shadow etched into his face. “Don’t snoop anymore. Once we’ll get past, again? We all share but some things are just our alone. Like you for me.

“Like your car.”
