Page 59 of Rogue Wolf

Plant in hues of gray fly past as I run, panting from the exertion. Air rushes through my pelt, tickling my fur, reminding me of what I am.

I am Wolf.

A terrified mouse scampers out of my way. A strength like no other pulses through me as I change direction to snap at the mouse. With its tail in my mouth, I fling my head to the side, tossing it through the air. I send it on its way, giving it another chance at life. I’m not interested in killing right now. That can come later.

My entire being buzzes with something like laughter. My unfamiliar anatomy is amazing, just as I knew it would be.

I turn to glance behind me. I can’t see him, my mate. But I know he’s chasing me. I know it’s him. He wanted me to exist in this form. I am his right as the alpha.

I’m not about to make the pursuit easy for him, even though I want him to catch me. For now, I’m enjoying this form. I want to run, allow myself to savor my shift in eyesight, my amplified hearing, and my sharpened sense of smell.

At this rate, I could run all night. I sprint up the side of the mountain, amazed at the strength and power flowing through my body.

At the top, I’m greeted by the full moon. I lift my head and howl an ancient ode, a tune I know innately.

I hear him burst into the clearing and hurry to the edge of the mountain, where I stand waiting for him. Our noses touch, and my senses explode with his scent, taste, and touch all at once.

I nuzzle into his neck to cuddle, enjoying his fur against mine and his strong form. He pushes back gently. Then we lift our heads to the sky, the moonlight shining down on us, and sing our song together, the notes of our howls haunting the night with delightful harmony. I feel whole, like I’ve found the part of me I’d always been missing.

Tamaska stirred on the bed, arms still pumping as if she running. A sound had woken her, and she sat up sharply in bed.

What the hell was that? Had someone come in? But she knew. Somehow.

Kodiak.

The dream lingered in her mind, sending her serotonin levels soaring. All she needed now was for the dream to come true, to exist in wolf form for real.

Is that what she’d experienced while asleep? What her wolf form would be like? She wanted to snuggle back between the sheets and will the dream to return.

Her mind tilted toward slumber but, with her senses sharpened from the dream, she heard water running.

Tamaska rose, the pathway to her cherished dream fading.

The sound of the shower running made the hair on the back of her neck rise. Pleasure, fear, that tiny bite of anger still lingering, fueling her blood.

Tamaska wanted to call out, but her mouth dried.

She slipped from the bed and padded to the bathroom door. She tried to open it, but it was locked.

Damn Kodiak, anyway. She threw herself into the door, bursting the lock and the door banged open.

“What the fuck?” Kodiak poked his head out from behind the shower curtain. “Tamaska?”

“What, you think I’m not fucking strong enough to survive the change?”

“What?”

She swallowed hard, anger fueling her words. Her breath felt like dragon’s fire. She glared at him, wanting…wanting something.

Wanting him.

“I did my own research,” she said over the sound of running water.

“So?” Kodiak stepped away from the screen, water still streaming down the sculpted muscles of his chest.

Tamaska’s breath caught in her throat. How can I be so angry and so horny at the same time?

“I’m strong enough to change into wolf form whether it’s a full moon or not.”
