“So what?” Oh, fuck. It was almost as if she could taste the thrill and knew it would be better than anything she’d ever felt.

She wanted…she wanted…

“Don’t you want to know what that would feel like?” His voice caressed her. “I’ll show you a first time you’ll never forget.”

Her mind grew fuzzier. Was he doing something to her? It was getting harder to move, as if he’d placed a spell on her. She couldn’t flee.

But she fought it, gathering all her strength and she pushed out, “Get out.”

“Not without you.” he crooned. “I want you to come with me.”

“That’s never going to happen.” She clenched her fists, as if that would stop the scent of her blood from wafting towards Amdis’ greedy fangs.

“Why not?”

“You’re not my type.”

The spell snapped. “Like them furry, do you?”

“Fuck off.” She narrowed her eyes, trying to work out her best plan of action.

Amdis sighed. “Of course, you like him. Big and handsome if you like that animalistic roughness. You could like my kind too, you know. You could become one of us.” He leaned against the doorframe of the bedroom. “You want to change into one of his kind? That’s basic. Change into one of us and understand true beauty and sophistication.”

Her gut churned, and she fought not to double over. Did he really know she wanted to be changed and become one of the pack, or was he simply guessing?

“The change to become a vampire isn’t as intense as the transformation into a wolf shifter, and you don’t have to keep switching between forms. As I said, shifters are basic, we are not. You’d still know exactly who you are,” Amdis said.

“What do you want? You’ve already got the Blood Opal.” She shuffled back cautiously, careful not to trip again.

“I was wondering when you would bring up the gem.”

“I want it back. It’s not yours.”

“It is now. If you want it, then you need to come with me. I can tell you all about it and what it can do.” He lifted his nose in the air, inhaling slowly. His gesture repulsed her. “Mmm, delicious. You’re delicious beyond the vile stench of shifter. Come with me, Tamaska.”

“Like hell.”

“I could simply take you,” he said. “I don’t mind tying you up to take you with me.”

“I’m not going with you.”

Tamaska glanced at the camera concealed in the corner of the room. Was it still working?

She didn’t think she’d fare too well in a fight against Amdis.

Please, see. Check the cameras, Kodiak.

He would go feral on her for disobeying him, but she’d rather face Kodiak than get killed. Death—in the form of Amdis—was looking at her, and she didn’t like it.

Tamaska moved back further, stepping into a pool of golden sunlight. Amdis didn’t follow her.

Why isn’t he following?

The last of the day’s rays spread in through her apartment window. This used to be her favorite time to spend at home.

Then, she understood why he couldn’t follow her. Not until the sun set.

She went to make a run for the door. She didn’t see the object hurtling towards her. Pain exploded in her head, and she stumbled. Her vision blurred, and a bottle of hot sauce rolled across the floor.
