“I mean it.” Tamaska didn’t want to know what he wanted.

The vampire stepped forward, and Tamaska automatically moved backwards into the open living room. Her eyes fixed on him, ready to make a run for it if he attacked her.

“I’m Amdis, the leader of the vampires.”

A sick sensation slowly spread through Tamaska. Her vision wavered. He was the vampire who wanted her.

What the fuck had she done by coming here?

“Doesn’t mean anything to me.” Her voice lacked confidence.

“You’re not a very good liar.” He smirked, moving closer to her.

“Get out.” Panic rose within her. She kept her eyes on the vampire, suspicious that he hadn’t rushed towards her yet. “You shouldn’t be here.”

She had to get away from him.

This time, she wasn’t so sure Kodiak would get there in time to help her.

If only she’s been smart, obeyed, even though obedience wasn’t a natural state for her. Kodiak was right. There were so many things about the world of shifters and vampires that she didn’t know, that she had no idea about. Her ignorance and stupid decisions were going to get her killed.

Maybe today.

Amdis smiled slowly, coldly. “I can be anywhere I fucking choose. And what better place to be than here with you.”

He held out his hand and for a moment she wanted to put her hand in his.

She snatched her hand to her side and, stepping back collided with something hard and she wobbled, stumbling over the broken coffee table. Pain shot through her leg as she hit the floor.

Tamaska struggled to get up from the ground. She turned over and pushed broken pieces of furniture away as she pushed up, collapsing again as her foot hit something and shot out from under her.

At any moment, she expected the vampire to grab hold of her and break her neck or something.

She had to get on her feet and be ready to fight.

She steadied her hands on the ground and pushed up, wincing as broken glass cut into her palms.

She wobbled but stood, her leg throbbing with pain. Her eyes locked on the vampire.

A chill went through her, freezing her blood.

Amdis licked his lips slowly.

The stickiness on her palms along with the coppery smell warned her to get out of there immediately.

“Don’t you want to know what it is like?” he asked, his voice mesmerizing. “To be powerful, to feed on the essence of life itself?”

“No.” But to her surprise, curiosity welled within her as her brain grew fuzzy at the edges.

What’s wrong with me?

“It won’t hurt,” he said softly, beguilingly. “It’s not so different from having sex.”

“As if.”

He seemed to get bigger, to steal her space and air and she wanted to step into his arms, let him lick her skin, clean up the blood…

“There’s a moment of afterglow like nothing you’ve ever felt before.” That cold smile appeared again as he voice weaved around her.
