Tamaska’s throat constricted. The growing emptiness inside of her argued otherwise.
She studied the screens through occasional flickers, but there was no movement around the room. Then, she watched an image of herself exit the room.
Tamaska sat up straight, hands clutching the swivel chair’s arms. Her breath caught and froze in her lungs.
This was it. The moment of truth.
Not long after, Kodiak left the room dressed in jeans, a shirt, and sneakers. His hair was messy, eyes dark and tired. But he looked determined like he had a mission to complete.
What is he up to?
If he was off to kill vampires she’d… She’d rush after him, that’s what.
“To be expected, right?” said Ash.
From somewhere she found a smile and put it in place. It felt sickly fake and greasy.
Ash frowned as she clicked on the keyboard, getting the cameras to track Kodiak’s movements.
They followed him outside, and Ash flickered between different cameras positioned around the compound.
Then he did something that astounded her.
He got into his car and drove away.
Without a weapon. Without a back up.
Just him and his stupid fucking car.
Driving away.
“He’s not, is he?” asked Ash.
Tamaska knew the answer to that. He was.
They watched him drive away from the compound.
“Where the fuck is he going?” asked Ash.
“I don’t know, but I’m going to fucking kill him when he returns for leaving without telling me.” And Tamaska meant it.
Love or no love, she was fucking killing him.
Dead.
CHAPTER 31
Tamaska
She rubbed the tops of her shoes into the clean carpet, wondering what on earth could make Kodiak leave her like that.
What the actual fuck was his problem?
And it wasn’t just her he’d left. No, he’d left everyone.
Maybe the vampire’s had addled his brain or his long contact with the silver had made him insane.
Or maybe he just wanted a good ass whipping and this is the only way he could think of.
