Tamaska saw Ash’s point. “Does that mean answering all my questions, too?”

“Yes.” Ash smiled.

“Even the dumb ones?”

"Even those,” she said to Tamaska with a dry note of humor.

“And you’d have to answer them? You don’t have to get permission from Kodiak?”

“I don’t.” Ash took a mouthful of coffee.

Tamaska sighed. Her now-impossible vision of the future was a lot to let go of, but one thing was for sure—Ash did have more time to teach Tamaska how to be a wolf, to function within the pack. With a surprise connection forming between them, Tamaska could learn so much, so quickly, rather than always waiting for Kodiak.

And, Ash was also right about how it meant her time with Kodiak wouldn’t be training or resentment from her or from him over that aspect. It would be just them. And she wanted that, she really did.

“I look forward to having you teach me,” said Tamaska. “Thank you.”

“I want to say my pleasure but we’ll probably hate each other for…oh…a week. Even when us shifter go through training you hate the trainer for a period of time. People ride your ass so damn hard.” Then she grinned. “And I’m going to be no different.”

Tamaska gave a small laugh. “Thanks.”

“It’s a compliment. I think this will be good. And, uh, sorry.”

She looked at Ash. “How about we call it even. I used your computer and you accidentally turned me.”

“We-ell…”

She stared, oh, God. Ash was going to hold the computer thing over her whenever the whim struck.

“It’s a deal.” But she touched Tamaska’s hand a moment. “Seriously, I told you I forgave you. I hope you can forgive me for this.”

Apart from Channing and Roan and maybe Onai, she got the feeling that she could now count Ash as her friend. Hopefully she’d end up proving herself more and others would accept her. And Kodiak…maybe she could make him proud.

“I can’t wait get started,” Tamaska said.

“First things first. On the full moon, I’ll turn you properly. Then, we can start your training.”

“I guess it’s only a few days away, so I guess I can wait.” Tamaska raised her cup of coffee. “Cheers. Seriously. Thank you for helping.”

Ash clicked her cup against Tamaska’s. “I should warn you, I’m a taskmaster. You might not like my methods.”

“Now, you tell me,” said Tamaska, laughing.

“I’ve got to go check on Channing and the others. I’ll see you later,” Ash said with a sigh.

“Bye.” Tamaska finished her cup of coffee. She shivered, knowing she was already a wolf but hadn’t yet been turned. All too quickly and yet not quickly enough, that was going to change.

Now that lunchtime had passed, Tamaska figured it was time to check in on Kodiak, maybe wake up. Maybe they could get naked…if he was up to it. With a smile, she returned to his room and opened the door quietly, expecting to see him asleep on the bed.

Instead, the room lay empty.

Where the hell was he?

CHAPTER 30

Tamaska

It was hard to breathe. Panic fluttered fast and wild in her veins and she rushed from the room.
