Page 104 of His Darkest Desire

Kinsley’s pleasure was his undoing.

His muscles seized, making his rhythm falter, and his breath caught in his throat. The pressure at his core swelled, suddenly too great for him to bear, and each tiny movement of Kinsley’s body only intensified the sensation.

Vex’s thoughts fractured. Everything he’d wanted, everything he’d seen and done, everything he’d experienced and suffered, all of it broke apart into meaningless shards but for one thing—his mate.

A snarl ripped out of his throat and his wings snapped outward as seed erupted from him. His free hand darted to her hip, pinning her in place. He continued pumping his hips forcefully, erratically, resisting the oblivion promised by his climax for as long as possible.

Wrapping her arm around Vex’s neck, Kinsley held him tight as her body quivered. She squeezed her eyes shut and pressed her forehead to his. Their breaths came in short pants, mingling with his low groans and her soft moans.

Curving his body over her, sheltering her, protecting her, Vex thrust into Kinsley one final time, burying his cock deep, and held himself there while pleasurable shocks echoed through them.

Basking in the aftermath of their joining, they slowly eased. Vex’s wings settled around them like a shroud, blocking out the rest of the world. Only he and Kinsley remained—their soft breaths, their heat, their mating scents. Their hearts beating in tandem.

Vex lifted his head to look down at her. Even with naught but the crimson glow of his eyes to light her face, Kinsley was radiant.

He brushed the backs of his fingers down her cheek, and she looked up at him with a content smile. His heart clenched.

“I was lost in the shadows, alone and bereft, until you brought light into my world, Kinsley.”

Her eyes glistened with tears as they searched his face. She withdrew her arm from around his neck to tuck his hair behind his ear, where her fingers lingered. “I won’t leave you alone in that darkness again.”

Cupping her cheek, he wiped away one of her escaped tears with his thumb. He pressed his lips gently to her forehead, letting his eyelids fall shut, letting himself relish their closeness, their warmth, their bond.

It was more than he’d ever dared hope. She was more than he’d ever dared dream.

When he lifted his head again, he said the only words his ragged voice was able to produce. “Thank you.”

Unwilling to withdraw from her and relinquish the rapturous heat of her body, unwilling to sever their connection, Vex slipped his arm behind her shoulders and rolled onto his back, drawing Kinsley atop him. He wrapped his arms and his wings around her, cocooning her in his embrace.

I will never let you go, my moonlight.

I could not bear it.

CHAPTER TWENTY-EIGHT

Kinsley dared not move, dared not even breathe, lest she awaken Vex from his sleep. They lay on their sides with legs intertwined, facing each other. One of his wings was tucked beneath her, while the other, along with his arm, was draped over her in a warm, loose embrace.

Soft daylight shone through the window above them, chasing away the shadows. It fell across Vex’s skin without causing him any apparent injuries or discomfort, unlike when he’d crossed into direct sunlight while fighting the barghest.

His quiet repose was so far removed from the fitful sleep she’d witnessed as he healed; she’d never seen him this relaxed and untroubled. She knew he hadn’t yet fully recovered. Not even a goblin wizard could battle fever for eight days after being nearly eviscerated and then jump out of bed as though nothing had happened.

But when he’d come to her last night, he’d been so vigorous, passionate, and alive. So present.

Kinsley smiled. Her body still thrummed, and her sex still ached from their lovemaking. But it was such a good ache.

It had been so long since she’d been intimate with anyone, so long since she’d been touched, since she’d felt loved… And her connection with Vex had surpassed anything she’d ever experienced. What they’d shared had been so much more than physical. It was like their souls had come together in a sensual, spellbinding dance, and were now blissfully, eternally joined.

Thoughts like that, feelings like that, only happened in romance novels. They were fantasy.

But look at me. Look at where I am, look at who is sleeping beside me.

Her very own broody, beautiful, sorcerous goblin king.

There was magic in this world.

Unable to resist any longer, Kinsley reached out and lightly traced the swirling scars next to Vex’s eye.

A deep hum rumbled from his chest, and he drew her a little closer.
