DiceDiceBaby: No apology necessary. Good hectic?

WhiskyBusiness: Great hectic.

Jamie had been sitting in the parking lot of The Rookery staring at his phone for the last ten minutes, and he still was no surer about what to say to Whisky.

Actually, that wasn’t true. He knew exactly what he needed to say. Spending the day in the kitchen with Tessa had only made it clearer. That clarity didn’t make him feel like any less of a dick, though.

His phone dinged again.

WhiskyBusiness: I think we need to talk about it.

WhiskyBusiness: The other night, I mean.

WhiskyBusiness: Last week.

WhiskyBusiness: Fuck, this is awkward.

DiceDiceBaby: I know what you meant, and I agree.

WhiskyBusiness: I shouldn’t have sent you that picture.

WhiskyBusiness: And then asked for one back.

WhiskyBusiness: And then sent that video.

DiceDiceBaby: I did all those things, too. And I shouldn’t have.

DiceDiceBaby: I really like you, but I know you don’t want more than my friendship. And I respect that. It was a mistake to cross that line.

WhiskyBusiness: If things were different, if you were some guy I met at a Starbucks, then maybe we would have stood a chance.

WhiskyBusiness: But you’re too important to me now.

WhiskyBusiness: You’re too perfect.

DiceDiceBaby: I assure you, I am far from perfect.

WhiskyBusiness: In my head, I mean. No man could ever live up to the you in my head.

DiceDiceBaby: And no woman could hold a candle to you, princess.

WhiskyBusiness: The truth is, I did meet someone.

WhiskyBusiness: And I can’t be with him, but I also can’t stop thinking about him.

WhiskyBusiness: It wasn’t fair for me to do those things with you when I’m hung up on him.

WhiskyBusiness: So I’m sorry.

He stared at the texts as they appeared rapid-fire on his screen and waited for the jealousy to curl in his stomach. But it didn’t. Instead, relief washed over him like a wave.

DiceDiceBaby: I’m sorry, too. You aren’t the only one hung up on someone else.

WhiskyBusiness: Really? You’re not just saying that to make me feel better.

DiceDiceBaby: Really.

WhiskyBusiness: Who is she?
