I always knew she’d find out about the birth control pills. I just never imagined that today would be the day.

I stand in the corner talking to Hunter as he shakes his head at me, “You switched her pills but didn’t tell her?”

Laughing, I respond, “It’s basically the same thing you did with Jade, and it turned out just fine.”

Hunter puts his hands in his pockets as he glares at me, “No, it’s not the same, man. Jade knew. And she wanted kids at least one day. Mia doesn’t. You had no right to switch her birth control pills and force her to get pregnant without her knowledge.”

It’s at that moment that I glance up and see my wife staring at me with a tear rolling down her cheek.

“Mia!”

She pulls up her dress, revealing white flat boots, and turns and runs. I chase after her but hit a brick wall that is Max.

“Care to tell me why my sister just ran crying from her own wedding?”

Hunter approaches from behind me, “Tell him or I will.”

“She’s pregnant, “I grit out, “Now let me go.”

Hunter laughs, “Truth Trevor. The whole truth.”

“I switched her birth control pills.”

Max glares at me, pulls his fist back, and punches me in the face, causing me to stumble but not fall. I wipe the blood from my lip on my sleeve.

“I should beat the shit out of you, but I need to find my sister.”

“Let's go. Joey is still out there. Mia shouldn’t be alone.”

Pulling out my phone, I track hers, “She’s still here.”

I follow the dot on my phone straight to a garbage can.

“Fuck,” I growl, “She ditched her phone.”

After searchingthe streets for hours with no luck, we decide to check the hotel. We should’ve checked there first because she had been there. All her things are gone except the wedding dress that sits, ripped to shreds, on the floor.

For the first time since I switched her pills, I see things clearly. I am going to lose her. I think I already have. Was a child I was sure she’d want worth this? No, it wasn’t. Nothing is worth losing Mia.

Hunter sighs, “There’s no amount of graveling to undo this, man. This is Mia. She’ll never forgive you. It’s done.”

I nod, “I know.”

Truer words have never been spoken. I don’t even know how to fix this. She has an appointment at the abortion clinic. Clearly, my wife didn’t think about the fact that we share a Google calendar. That’s my only chance of being able to discuss things with her. If she doesn’t want to be found, she won’t be. Mia knows all the tricks. If she changes the appointment day, I won’t have a clue when it is. I’m going to have to stand watch over the building until she appears.

Max shakes his head, “We have to go. If you hear from her, please let me know.”

“I will but I won’t hear from her.”

He shrugs, “Yeah you’re probably right about that.”

After they leave, I go into the bedroom and find the note I left her this morning ripped up. Another note is beside the pieces of paper.

Trevor,
