Page 42 of An Unhinged Wedding

“James is dead.”

I nod, “I figured he would be. Did you get anything from him?”

He shakes his head, “Not much. Joey is planning something, but we don’t have details. We know it’s coming but we don’t know when or how.”

I fold my arms across my chest, “We aren’t canceling, Max.”

Trevor pipes up, “We don’t run, hide or fall to our knees for anyone. Not even if it costs us our lives.”

Max nods, “I figured that’s what you’d say. I understand, but I can’t allow Willow and the kids to be out in public right now. Willow has been taken home where she’ll stay for the foreseeable future.”

I shrug, “That breaks my heart, but I get it.”

He rises out of the tiny chair, “I’m sorry, Mia. She wants to be here for your wedding, but it’s a risk I cannot take.”

I run over to him and wrap my arms around his waist, “You’re still coming, right?”

Hugging me back, he chuckles, “I wouldn’t miss it. I will be here tomorrow to walk you down the aisle.”

Kissing me on the top of my head, he says, “I need to go. Willow is probably breaking all my shit right now.”

“See you tomorrow.”

He nods and walks out the door while Trevor stares at me with a hungry look in his eyes. I swear this man has the stamina of a superhero.

MIA

Ican’t even count the number of times we had sex last night, but I sure as hell can feel it. The delicious soreness between my legs makes me smile as I open my eyes. I squint at the bright sunlight peeking through the vertical blinds. I feel for Trevor, but in his place, I find a note instead. Bringing it to my face, I inhale the scent of his expensive cologne.

Wife,

Thank you for last night. You were perfect, as always—beautiful, sexy, and mine. Max and Hunter demanded I leave before you woke up this morning. Since nobody knows we’ve already married, they want us to have the traditional experience. I would’ve preferred to stay buried in my favorite place. I need you to be extra vigilant today, Kitten. Until Joey is dead, he’s still a threat. Your girls are waiting in the living room for you. Enjoy your day getting ready for our wedding. You’ve asked why I insisted on having this wedding when we’re already married. The answer is simple. I want you to have every experience in life, Mia. So many of those were taken from you. I will not rob you of anymore. I will give you everything you’ve ever dreamed of and more as you have me. I love you.

Yours,

Trevor

I takea deep breath and climb out of bed. A quick glance at the alarm clock on the nightstand reveals I have three hours until I have to be at the church. I need to take a shower, but it’d be rude not to even say hello to my girls, so I grab a white fluffy robe and head out to see them.

When I walk out to the living room area, Ivy is reading on her Kindle. Jade and Willow are deep in conversation. I stop in my tracks. She is not supposed to be here. Max made it clear that she would not be part of our wedding.

“Willow!”

She glances at me with a beaming smile on her face, “Mia!”

Running over to me, she pulls me into her arms while Jade and Ivy look on.

“What are you doing here? Max said.”

She steps back with her hands on her hips, “Let me tell you something about your brother. He thinks he controls things, but he doesn’t. There was no way I was going to miss your wedding.”

I shake my head, “He’s got to be pissed.”

Willow shrugs, “It’s nothing he won’t get over. My husband does not get to make decisions regarding me without my input. He likes to think he’s the boss of all things, but he’s wrong.”

I can’t help the smile that spreads across my face. Willow has been through so much like I have. There was a time not that long ago when she would have done exactly what Max told her to do. My sister-in-law has become a fierce woman willing to go to battle against my alpha brother. There is no doubt in my mind this was indeed a battle. There’s no way he simply let her come here today. The fact that this day is important enough to her to fight about it warms my heart. She’s the sister I never knew I needed. Normally, my first impressions are spot on. If I don’t like you, there’s usually a good reason why, and my opinion won’t change. I didn’t like Willow at all when we met. She’s my exception. I’ve grown to love her nearly as much as I love my brother. She’s my Thelma. I’m her Louise. Ride or die and all that shit. I’d be fucking lost without her.

She grins, “I love you too, bitch. Now go take a shower so we can get you to your wedding ceremony in time.”
