I breathe, “I’m weak, Trevor. I’m not the strong woman you think I am. Broken. Frail. Vulnerable. Those are all words to describe me. None of them are good.”

He leans forward, takes my bottom lip between his teeth, bites and pulls, eliciting a moan from me. He slides his tongue into my mouth when he releases my lip, kissing me passionately. He pulls back and growls, “You are not fucking broken or frail. You have so much strength. You are vulnerable with me. I’m your safe place, Mia. There is nothing wrong with that. Fall into me and let me take care of you.”

“Trevor,” I whisper as a tear rolls down my cheek.

With the pad of his thumb, he brushes the wetness away, “Good girl. Give me every part of you. Even the sadness.”

His words are my undoing as I fall into his arms and let the tears fall. One becomes ten, and ten becomes unending. Trevor holds me in his warm embrace, “I’ve got you, Kitten. Whether you’re happy or sad, I’ve always got you. You can fall apart and let me piece you back together.”

He keeps holding me as I sob, “It shouldn’t bother me anymore. What’s wrong with me?”

Kissing me on the forehead, he sighs, “No, you shouldn’t, Mia. You don’t just get over what you went through. You were a child. They beat you. Raped you. They fucking stole your life. They killed your parents. Took you from your brother. That is not something that you simply get over. There is nothing wrong with you. You are perfect the way you are.”

I laugh through my tears, “Trev, I think you need a dictionary. You obviously don’t know what the word, perfect, means.”

He pulls his phone from his pocket and starts typing.

Trevor grins, “Perfect is an adjective. According to Webster, it means,

having all the required or desirable elements, qualities, or characteristics; as good as it is possible to be.”

His gaze catches on mine with a fierce intensity, “Alright I admit it. You aren’t a perfect person, Kitten, no one is. But you’re perfect to me. I wouldn’t change a single thing about you if I could. When I look at you, I see complete perfection.”

“Trev,” I whisper.

“Jesus Kitten, that sound makes me want to fuck every tear away right here in your brother’s house with him in the next room.”

I giggle as I wipe my leftover tears away, “I need to check on Savannah.”

He growls, “No. You’re going to say goodbye for today. You’ve had enough. It’s time to go.”

“I can’t-”

Trevor silences me with a kiss and then says, “No argument. She will be fine. Jade, Willow and Jessica are here to take care of her. Now it’s time for you to take care of yourself.”

“But-”

“Kitten,” he growls, “This is not a negotiation. I know what you need even when you don’t. I’ve told you that before. Go say goodbye.”

I open my lips to speak, but when he glares at me, I press my lips closed and storm off to say goodbye to Savannah. I climb the stairs two at a time, pissed that he’s making me leave. If I’m honest, I’m more upset that he knows me better than I know myself. I knock on the door to Savannah’s room and enter slowly. Dr. Cruise is with her. I was so lost in my own emotions; I didn’t hear her come back into the house.

Savannah smiles, “Mia.”

Dr. Cruise says, “We’ve got some fluids going into you to help with the dehydration as well as antibiotics. Xander is going to come and look at the burns to decide if he needs to do surgery.”

She looks at me, “In the meantime, call if you need me to come back. There will be a nurse arriving within the hour. Her name is Natalie and she’ll monitor her temperature as well as change the bandages as needed.”

Dr. Cruise nods and pats Savannah on the hand before leaving.

“I have some things to take care of. Jessica and Willow will be here with you. If you need me or just want to talk to me, they have my number. I’ll be back to check on you tomorrow afternoon.”

She flashes a sad expression before pasting a fake smile on her face, “Okay.”

I gently brush the hair out of her face, “I promise when Dr. Cruise says it’s safe, we’ll have our girl’s day at the pool. I will be back, Savannah.”

Savannah lets out a long breath, “Okay.”

Leaning down, I kiss her forehead, “You’re safe now, sweet girl. Get better so we can have fun.”
