“I need to go to the bathroom,” I deflect quickly and stand.

“I do too,” he replies.

“You can’t come at the same time as me. That would be weird. The server will think we took off without paying the bill.”

“I’m pretty sure the server knows who I am. I can tell the way she was looking at me,” he replies.

“Was she hitting on you?” I ask because I must have missed it.

“Whatever, who cares,” he states. “My point is we can go to the bathroom at the same time.”

“You’re a weirdo,” I say playfully. “And I really need to pee.” Oops, TMI.

“A weirdo who is now following you to the bathroom.”

I take the lead and Evan follows. I’ve been to this restaurant before, so I know exactly where the restroom is. As I walk, I’m giggling to myself.

As I head toward the narrow hall, a female bumps into me. “Sorry,” I apologize.

From behind me I hear, “Evie?” It’s a question.

I spin around since the woman walked past me to see Evan’s mortified face.

“Hi, Evan,” Evie greets. “I tried to get a hold of you so many times. I was hoping at some point you’d answer my calls.” She reaches out and touches his arm, and my hackles come up as I thinkget your paws off my man.

“I didn’t think we had anything to talk about,” he replies dryly, shrugging away from her touch. I exhale but the moment is still tense. I don’t walk away, even though it’s none of my business and I need to pee.

“I just. . .I just wanted to explain. You know. . . it was the first time anything like that ever happened. It was a mistake,” Evie whines. She is beautiful with stunning red hair and a body to kill.

“You’re boss mistakenly ate you out?” Evan sneers. “Good one.”

Evie flinches. “Evan, sweetie.”

I’m about to barf from that comment.

I move in and stand beside Evan, wrapping my arm around him. “Hi, Evie, I heard everything about you. I’m Patty, Evan’s girlfriend.” I extend my hand to her because my friend needs a lifeline right now.

Shock crosses her features as her jaw drops. She looks between us then extends her hand to shake mine. “N-nice to meet you. I didn’t realize you two were together. I saw you eating dinner together and figured you were friends.”

“Oh no, we’re definitely together,” I snicker. “I can’t get enough of Evan, if you know what I mean. He’s so good in bed and the way he eats my. . .” I don’t finish the sentence because suddenly Evan’s lips are on mine. It takes a moment for my mind to catch up to what is happening, but Evan’s warm, soft lips are pressed to me as his thumb comes up and brushes my jaw. Suddenly his tongue is in my mouth and my back is pressed to a wall. My knees become weak as I kiss him back, my tongue coming out to tangle with his. He tastes like sin and forbidden nights; he tastes like ecstasy. His knee presses between my thighs, and holy hell, he is hard. A whimper escapes me andOMG what are we doing?

When we break apart, Evan’s lips are wet and swollen. He’s breathing hard as he stares into my eyes, his hand is still caressing the side of my face, and he’s so close his scent drives me wild. I’m breathing hard, confusion swirling inside me like a tsunami.

He steps away.

“Wow, you two really can’t keep your hands off each other.” Evie’s voice pulls me from whatever fantasy just had me transfixed.

“That’s us.” I smile the fakest smile I can muster.

“Patty is amazing,” Evan confirms.

“Well. I’m happy for you, Evan. I should get back to my. . . boss,” Evie adds. The redheaded bombshell walks away in her mini skirt and legs that go on for days, but Evan is still watching me like I’m some code he’s trying to crack.

“Say something,” he finally urges when Evie is out of earshot. “I appreciate you helping me out.”

I gather my wits about me swiftly and take a deep breath. “Of course.” I smile. Again, it’s fake. I don’t mean to give my friend a fake smile, but that kiss was confusing. It felt like the hottest kiss I’ve ever had, but that shouldn’t be the case. I blink to clear my mind then remember my bladder is screaming after all that wine.

“Ima go to the ladies’ room.” I point in the wrong direction then realize what I’m doing and give Evan an impish smile.
