“Tell her what? That we’re werewolves and that we know she is our mate? Are you out of your fucking mind? She’d run.”

“Then what are we supposed to do? I’ve heard it’s only going to get worse for us. There was a guy who actually shifted in front of his future mate, because his need was so great. To say she freaked would be an understatement.”

That would be terrible. “If Blair ever told anyone that one of us turned into a wolf in front of her, they’d say she had some kind of brain damage from the accident.” At least Jeff hoped that was what people would say.

“We’ll need to date her, so she can get used to being around us.”

“I love the idea of going out with Blair, but I think we should do it slowly. She was just in an accident. Besides, I don’t see her as the type to be with two men at once,” Jeff said.

Zane nodded. “Then we’ll just have to get her to fall in love with both of us. When she can’t choose, we tell her she doesn’t have to.”

Jeff chuckled at his naivete. “Good luck with that. You can go first.”

“Thanks. Don’t mind if I do. I’ll be happy to test the waters.”

“Good, but don’t come crying to me when she rejects you.”

“That will never happen.” Zane’s eyes sparkled.

“In your dreams. Oh, before I forget, Uncle Adam asked if we’d help him with something.”

Zane quickly sobered. “I’m always game for investigating. What is it?”

Jeff gave Zane a rundown of their conversation. “We can either go about our business for the rest of the day, pick up Blair after she finishes work, and then check on Crenshaw, or we can check on him now—assuming he’s home.”

“What do you hope to learn from visiting this guy?” Zane asked.

Jeff shrugged. “We need to determine whether we believe he has the means to hire someone to break into the Hensleys since he’s not a shifter.”

“I doubt he could, but I'm up for some surveillance. Do you know where he lives?”

“I have the address,” Jeff said.

“How about you drive? I need to come back here anyway to drive Blair home. No use taking two cars to spy on Crenshaw.” Zane said.

That made sense since Zach's apartment was in the opposite direction. “Sure, but I promised her that I would take her grocery shopping if she wanted. I don’t have any bathroom products for her to use or coffee for that matter.” At least he had a state-of-the-art coffee machine ready to go.

"Then we'll both go to the store."

The two climbed into Jeff's truck. “From what I could tell, Blair looked to be in good spirits just now, but how was she navigating the steps this morning? I imagine she was sore,” Jeff said.

“Blair looked rather stiff, but she pretended to be fine. When I caught her wincing a few times, I suggested she rest one more day, but she wouldn’t hear of it,” Zane said.

Jeff huffed out a laugh. “She is a stubborn one.”

“That’s for sure. We’ll have our hands full,” Zane shot back.

Jeff started the engine. “I like feisty. I need someone to call me out if I start to do something crazy.”

Zane laughed. “Seriously? I’ve been doing that your whole life, and it’s never worked.”

“Funny.”

The drive over to Midvale didn’t take long. “When you spoke with Mason, did he say what Jacob Crenshaw does for a living?” Jeff asked.

“No, just that he worked three jobs to cover the cost of his mortgage and food, but then lost two of the jobs. Mason said they are barely scraping enough money to live on.”

“That’s a shame. If we don't learn anything from our trip, maybe we should speak with Mr. Hensley afterward. He’d know the man’s background better than anyone since he turned him down for the loan,” Jeff said.
