“Good thinking.”

Jeff wasn’t sure what to conclude when they found the Crenshaw home. There was one car in the driveway—a white SUV. Not that he had any proof the theft and Blair’s accident were related, but he didn’t want to dismiss it too soon.

“What do you want to do?” Zane asked.

“Let’s park for a second. His house doesn’t look like it belongs to someone who could afford to hire two thugs.”

“I agree,” Zane said. “It’s small and in need of repair.”

“Did Mason say if they had any other children?” Jeff asked.

“I didn’t ask, and he didn’t say. Why?”

“I’m wondering if the SUV is his wife’s car, and Jacob is at work and drives a different car.”

“Did your uncle say what kind of car Jacob drove?” Zane asked.

“No, but I’ll call him to be sure.” Jeff dialed the sheriff’s office.

“Did you find something?” his uncle asked.

“Not yet. Do you know what kind of car Jacob Crenshaw drives?”

“I do. I have it on my computer. Give me a sec to look it up.” Keys clicked on the keyboard. “A 2011 gray Ford. Why?”

“I just wanted to make sure we had the right house.” He didn’t want to repeat his idea that the theft and Blair’s accident were connected since Jeff had no proof.

“Thanks for checking it out,” his uncle said.

“Sure thing.” He disconnected and turned to Zane. “Jacob’s car is a gray Ford.”

“I heard. Were you thinking it might have been an old blue one?” Jeff nodded. “Even if he drove one, he doesn’t know Blair.”

“That we know of.” Jeff stabbed a hand through his hair. “I don’t know what to think right now. Jacob Crenshaw is not a shifter, and he probably can’t afford to hire two thugs to rob Mr. Hensley. I also don’t see him knowing when a retired bank employee would be on vacation.”

“Me neither, but we shouldn’t dismiss him so easily,” Zane said. “Thoughts on what to do now?”

“Since no gray car is in the driveway, I’ll assume Jacob is at work. Even if he were home, it’s not as if we can ask him if he hired someone to rob the Hensleys.”

“How about we speak with Mr. Hensley then? He might be able to shed some light on whether he thinks Jacob is the type of person to seek revenge,” Zane suggested.

“Sure.” Jeff started the engine. “I think this is a better use of our time anyway. When we’re done speaking with him, we can continue installing more cameras around the perimeter until Blair calls and says she’s ready to leave work.”

“Sounds good.”

When Jeff pulled up to the Hensley’s home, they piled out of the truck. Zane rang the bell, and then they waited. “I hear someone inside,” Jeff said.

A moment later, the door opened. Mr. Hensley stilled, appearing a bit confused. “Yes?”

“I’m Jeff and this is Zane. We were the ones who installed your security system.”

Relief washed over Mr. Hensley. “Oh, yes. I remember. Don’t worry, I convinced my wife to keep the cameras uncovered.”

“That’s great, but we have some information about the robbery. May we come in?” Jeff asked.

Jeff couldn’t read minds, but it seemed as if Mr. Hensley wasn’t sure whether to let them in or not.

“We’ll only take a minute of your time,” Zane added.
